Buying ski gear online from Russia
With the Ruble in free fall I am looking into getting good deals on ski gear from Russia.
Has anyone here ever bought anything in Russia and brought it back into the US?
With the currency rate as is, I am looking at potentially being able to save close to 30% as compared to the best euro pricing.
I have contacted the russian retailer to see if they would be willing to ship to the US, but also wondering if anyone saw unexpected customs duties in excess of what they expected, either on export from russia or import to US.
Thanks in advance

skimming here: http://www.state.gov/e/eb/tfs/spi/ukrainerussia/
"We have also suspended credit finance that encourages exports to Russia and financing for economic development projects in Russia, and are now prohibiting the provision, exportation, or reexportation of goods, services (not including financial services), or technology in support of exploration or production for deepwater, Arctic offshore, or shale projects that have the potential to produce oil in the Russian Federation, or in maritime area claimed by the Russian Federation and extending from its territory, and that involve five major Russian energy companies."
I'm not sure, but I don't think it would be illegal to purchase goods from Russia

I'd be more worried about them cloning your credit card / hacking your PayPal account.

Canuckastan $ is down to around $.85 US. Probably a safer play.
Damn, we're in a tight spot!

I've gotten a couple of high end bike saddles off ebay from Ukraine. I got them in a couple of weeks, no issues.

Better buy soon if you are going to Russia. GM just scaled back its local production and jacked it prices on the lots, I think Apple has all but shut down sales. Probably not going to see local ski shops do it, but the world is adjusting quickly. Get 'em while their hot.
