Honest to God, I said to myself "Ryan Howard. He's still in the majors?"

Yep. It's been pretty ugly the last three years: http://www.baseball-reference.com/pl...owarry01.shtml
Only 2 more years / 60 million to go! Ouch.

You could say Bryce Harper is playing the game for the right reasons. Namely, competition and the chance to realize long held goals. Win or lose it should be an exciting season ahead.
On his boss^2:
“Mike’s awesome,” Harper said. “Truly. If I had a problem, I’d probably tell him straight to his face because that’s how he is and that’s how we are. I absolutely love Mike Rizzo, and the way he went about everything. It’s business and that’s how it is. I absolutely love this organization. I love the city that I play for. And I’m not done here.
“I’m 22 years old playing the game I love,” he said. “That’s it. I get to come out here and play the game that I love every single day and I’m not sitting behind a desk or at school or doing anything like that. I’m playing baseball and that’s good enough for me.

I like Bryce Harper. He's still a bit young and immature, but as a Giant's fan he scared the hell out of me during that playoff series last year. If he stays healthy, he's really going to be something when he hits his prime.

The Mets are going to be decent and the Marlins too. NL East could have a wildcard competitor or challenge for the division if Washington falters.

When the Nats signed Scherzer, Harper said, "Where's my ring?" In 2012 the Giants got Scherzer's ring and last year the Giants got Harper's ring. Winner of that 18 inning game gained the WS mojo.
The Nats are talented and due, except they owned some bad karma for pulling Strasburg from the 2012 season due to an innings limit.
Last year, the Nats/Williams pulled Zimmerman late against the Giants "because that's what they do," and they paid for it.
Wonder if Matt Williams and some other managers will let pitchers throw more pitches/innings in key spots after watching how Bochy handled the Giants' staff (and MadBum in particular).

The thing that Bochy does better than any other manager in the post season is he uses his best guys in the biggest situations, not when he's "supposed" to use them. While this seems pretty obvious, it's amazing how few managers actually do that. Larussa is another who seems to get it.

From today's paper in an article about Brandon Belt using La Fata, a nutritionist:
Notably, Pablo Sandoval chose not to work closely with LaFata, instead relying on the consultation of his brother and others.Well maybe I'm the faggot America

Buster Posey = Face of MLB

Love Buster, but that's a funny contest/poll. Makes one wonder how many Latino baseball fans voted as compared to "white folk."Last edited by 54-46; 02-27-2015 at 11:31 PM.

They just had Ramirez and Sandoval interviewed on NESN with a bunch of clips of BP...Pablo must've birthed that baby 'cause he's looking pretty good now.

The trimmest Pablo gets is during spring training - he puts on more weight during the season. He'll look like a walrus by September.

This looked like it was fun. He didn't do too badly fielding.

So Pete applied for reinstatment.
New commish (Selig clone) says he has no timetable to make a decision on Pete but I'm guessing the ASG in Cincy this year will help move a decision along - one way or the other.I still call it The Jake.
