on the road back from Platty after skiing with a great group. Yesterday's 10+ skied dense from the cray winds. Lots of refresh and it looks like they could pick up a few flakes tonight. About as crowded as I've ever seen it, once I even had to wait a few chairs to load.

The real news was the cold which at times was unpleasant with the aforementioned wind. No pictures were taken in an effort to keep my fingers but there should have been. What a sky.

-10 in the Smuggs parking lot at 8:00 am. If there is no GoPro footage did it really happen? All I got was the last pitch. Batteries last about two minutes in those temps.

The third pitch under the lift was roped off for some reason. I asked the patrol why and he said it was too cold. Say what? Might have skied it once or twice, and if I did it might have been with a boner.

Skied Cannon today. Fucking cold and the top was very windy. Had a little trouble getting the tram in the barn at times. -10 at the base in the morning and winds ~30mph.

Skiing real well though, a ton of snow on top of some wind blown hard pack. Stick to Peabody side (lift ride up was the 3rd circle of hell with a nw wind) and the woods. Kinsman skiing real well too.

After I got the 'stand down' order for a SAR at Stratton, the finest lift served backcountry in So VT was found around twilight today.

The notion of a so-called "ski mountaineering" race being postponed on account of cold temps is especially amusing for the at least a dozen Quebec racers who were planning to participate since they held a race earlier this month at -28C (which Google informs me is -18.4F).

They were lost even before they went out-of-bounds: that kind of stuff is supposed to be done not at Jay but at Killington (especially after getting stoned at Cooper's)!
I am not surprised about the late announcement even though the weekend weather was known for days, I wonder how many showed up?

I see lost skiers inbounds all the time.

HG and Bravo fell to the wind but Northridge is fixed [knock on wood].

I was up in that vicinity today as well. Great snow, though pretty cold up on the ridge. We had plans for a longer tour but just lapped the sunny side and tried to stay out of the wind. I haven't been in that zone in a couple seasons and it sure has become popular...

No pics due to the cold...

Looks like Monday will be a good day for me to start my season, I don't think I've ever waited this long to get out snowboarding. Heading up to Pinkham to lap the Sherbie until I can't feel my legs anymore. Now I just need to figure out when/where I can get out ice climbing before work sometime this week. Probably can't park anywhere near my usual solo top roping spot with all of this snow now.

^^^ If this storm is for real, there is a good chance they will open for a Powder Day, in which case you will be at a significant disadvantage if you are skinning...

Great trip into the northern Taconic range today with Magicsnowboard, Mrs. Msb, MNIAW, and some other good friends. Just under 2 hours to climb 2k'. I was having WAY too much fun in the upper birch glade to pull out the cell phone for pics. I did get a few lower down. Again, apologies for cell phone pics. I'm no From the NEK!
