At what altitude do Rainbow Trout turn into Steelhead? Idaho guide recs?
Buddy and I want to do some steelhead fishing this Feb/March.
The guided trips out of Riggins, Idaho seem amazingly reasonable! Heated drift boats, all the gear, lodging...etc.
(Plus I want to learn more about the Salmon River with an eye to float it ourselves at a later date.)
Any one have any recommendations for a good guide to school a couple of jongs??
Is the Salmon River the one to hit that time of year, or would we better suited somewhere else?
Would we have a better time somewhere else?
is there BC/lift skiing nearby ?
Thanks!

Those fish have been in the river for quite a while by that point and are pretty dark and tired. They don't refer to it as boot farming for nothing, though that might be a disservice to a boot. Late September-Early December is a much better time frame.

Stoked.
Booked a trip on the Salmon for Oct 5 from Riggins. Sound fun.
Where to go day 2? Middle fork?

Caught this hen on the Sauk River a couple hours from Mt. Baker several years ago in March.

altitude would be zero, depending on the datum
