Magnum Opus?
Line dropped this video for the Magnum Opus, which was way less art'ed out and talked a lot more about the specific shapes Pollard rode before arriving at the new one.
Has anyone skied these? Only have held them in the parking lot, but tough to tell the light weight with demo bindings on them. Really liked the SFB but but haven't skied any of Line's bigger shapes before."We're in the eye of a shiticane here Julian, and Ricky's a low shit system!" - Jim Lahey, RIP

Cool video - and very cool to hear him talk about the process and show us the 'failed' iterations.

I rode then at the on snow. I LOVED them! I kept looking down to see what is was on. I haven't been stoked on a pair of lines for a while but I am drinking the opus sauce on this one. Did not feel 124 underfoot for how light and nimble it was, and it held an edge really well on the hard pack.
PS Skis I've liked are the Atomic Atlas and Automatic The EHP and the Hoji. I don't think this MO is going to be as much of a charger as the EHP or Hoji but a more light weight playful Automatic. It did not ski like the Opus to me. So I kind of think naming it the Magnum Opus is a disservice because they ski so differently imho.Last edited by TheDon; 09-04-2014 at 11:30 PM. Reason: for the ps

Cool! I really like my Automatics and usually suck at skiing on full twin-tip powder shapes but the Bacon was the first true twin-tip pow ski I really enjoyed and skied well on. I do little to no skiing that falls under the 'charging' category according to maggot dentist qualifications, so I'd definitely be pumped to give the Magnum a try this winter...
EDIT: this is Dunfee...

my first reaction to athletes claiming to design skis is to roll my eyes, but, wow, he really does own it...love to see the early artwork too

EDIT: this is again Dunfee, just spending a lot of time on the TGR account to do some stuff in our backend publisher. Anyways...
Likewise, especially a guy who draws his engineering designs in charcoal in a moleskin notebook. But did you see that cardboard mock-up with the supports to illustrate the rocker? That's some hardcore nerd shit right there...
Sure thing. Personally, I didn't really like the new Bents... felt like I was working against the tail the whole time, but I'm a pretty hardcore backseat JONG and know others who really liked them. Really couldn't tell, for myself, what impact the boat hull stuff had.

Any idea if he sells his art? That oil painting is badass and would look good on my wall.

I thought the magnum opus was just a lighter, fancy-material'd opus? Not the case? Haven't watched the video yet.

I'm not sold on balsa wood as a core material yet.
edit:
I think the shape is sweet. I would however, make sure I had another pair of skis with me at all times.Last edited by XavierD; 09-06-2014 at 05:00 PM.

looks like a fun ski and The Don's comments make me even more interested to try it.
It cracks me up though that they are marketing this as the best ski EP has designed to date. Was that not also true about the original Opus, the SFB, and the EP pro? I liked the EP pro but haven't gotten a shot to ride anything else Pollard has designed.

Faction is also using balsa / flax cores in the Candide 3 & 4 and people seem to love them.

A bunch of companies are using the same core from bcomp. More here: http://www.playnaturallysmart.org/category/ski/ I suspect the MO's core to be fine. As for the other line skis no clue but suspect a nice cost cutting option for jardin

Yeah, Pollard has nothing to do with the design of his skis. I think somebody else does the artwork too. Kid has zero talent..

Hey,
Being a slight gear whore (ha) I am down to 187 Hojis, 185 Helldorados and 178 Chronics....need to build the quiver back up!!! I have always liked Line skis...they are FUN and don't f' up on mount points. I have owned previously: EP Pros, Blends, Bacons and currently have some 178cm Chronics for goofing around and 185cm Black Opus with Dukes for a sidecountry ski.
So I have been drooling over these Magnums. Interesting to hear that they feel different than a regular Opus. If so, give it a new name. Now my 17 yr old kid is thinking he should get my Black Opuses.
Anyways, hard to find these for les than $799. But I may just do it. Or not. Fack. Or maybe stay on my black Opus and wait a year.
Please post reviews.
