Looking like a bit more moisture for early next week. Hope it hits hard because the long range after this is calling for high pressure and warm off the coast. I am hoping I don't have to post any dirty pics of my wife in the ullr (NSFW) thread.

Since things are rock hard lower down, thought Id try and get up high to see what things are like. A lead on good access to the alpine up hwy 23 turn out to be wrong, unless a sled was involved. Turned around and headed to the pass. Was able to get an early start, and since it was a solo trip, thought I'd just explore the Cougar valley from Balu pass, as I'd never been out there.

Balu pass looking back into the valley fog

    Early morning sun on Catamount.

Because this was plan B, didn't read up on the best approach to Catamount or Bagheera. I planned on just heading accross at an angle to try to not loose much vertical, but the series of valleys and cliffs made it really challanging. There seemed to be a good high route to get over to Catamount, but you would need to be familiar with the area or bring a map... The simplest way would have been to ski right to the valley, then head up your selected line.

Finally made it over and up below the east face.

    Looking north of Catamount pass

With the the snow being rock solid everywhere, thought it would worth a walk to the summit.

The snow was fairly windblown up high, ankle deep from 2100m up to the hight of the pass, skiable down to the valley bottom as long as you were in the open. The death march back up to Balu pass from the valley bottom was a killer. Any, yea, my ears are still ringing from the metal-on-ice on the ski out... Will try to get some video together.

Yeah, I got so sick of skinning on that shit that I walked up in Hermit. Ze German couple up there had some good lookin pow on Rogers s face, was a completely blank canvas tuesday (I believe from refresh). SH big in Hermit, not so much on the swiss glacier and above. Rime on rocks and thin snow up high. At worst, a pretty mild solar crust on steep southerlies.

Slight improvement at RMR this morning. Above 2000m , nice skiing with 8cm of fresh then below that its 8cms on a realllly hard crust. Im sure north bowl and subpeak were skiing fine.

Pretty representative of what below 2000m is looking like

Not sure if anyone is skiing anymore but its F"ing ridiculously good out there in the Purcells. Just got back from a 8 day trip that had bomber alpine conditions skiing knee deep for 4 days in bluebird off every peak in the vicinity followed by 4 days of waist deep tree and pillow smashing. Get your shred on boys!

I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues
