I think it's going to be just as much about training the public as anything else. It's kind of like the people in the security line up at the airport who can't get their shit together into the bins in less than 10 minutes.

I've never used an RFID before. The lady in Guest Relations said "Put it in your left front pocket, and kind of hip bump the scanner on your way by, and you'll be fine" Guess what? works like a charm. Haven't had a problem yet.

Granted, those gates aren't designed for bikes, so it requires a bit of a move to get your bike through. Also, as others have said, the mountain seem to be trying to get through their stock of old style day tickets, which is definitely slowing things up. Hopefully the kinks will be worked out by winter. These things are used all over the world, so I'm sure we can make it work here.

'Tis the end for the backcountry ticket poach. RIP to the last cheap way to ski WB...

50 bucks says they don't lower the backcountry pass price back down to reasonable levels, even with the new rfid tech......

I've used RFID tickets back East at Jay Peak. The lift lines seem to move pretty smoothy, and there are plenty of gapers/first-time RFID users. I don't think there's much to worry about.

Season's pass purchased today. Bring on the snow (at high-elevations; not ready to be done mountain biking).

There won't be madness at Peak Chair, since the mind-control feature in the RFID chip will keep everyone civil..

But really, from the placement at that chair, I'd say there's enough buffer for a few chair's worth of people between the gate and the loading zone which should help a bit. Anyone who doesn't have their shit together is going to be fair game for a punch to the back of the head for sure though, but that's not new.

I'm looking forward to the entertainment value. Gapers in tears make me laugh.

Spent 3 days in the bike park couple of weekends ago using an RFID pass, and it worked fine. Always opened, was carrying in left shorts pocket and worked fine there.

Yeah, but do you hang left or right?

The summit might have. Reports for early season always fail to distinguish between the volcano and the resort

    I typically use this forcast:
    http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick...3#.VEkl8xawQjY
More or less the base of the area. If its raining and cold at this elevation, its probably wet snow at the top of Chair 8

I like this point forecast better - it's at roughly the same elevation as the upper base area and gives you a good feeling for what's happening in the backcountry, too: http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick...5#.VElSBPnF8sY

I thought Gunder posted a Baker pic from this week that looked super deep?

What shops are good at fitting AT boots in Whistler/Squam/Van? FanatykCo is my shop but they don't really sell any AT boots, I've also had good luck at Destination in North Van but same story. Thinking about stuff like the Maestrale RS.

    Thx

Check out Westside Sports in Vancouver. They're next to MEC.
