What kind of Meat? | fly-fishing in Bolivia
I wanted to share some photos from a trip my brother and I took to Bolivia last summer. Fly-fishing in the Amazon was absolutely bananas! All I can say is put it at the top of your list right now. I wrote a couple blog posts for Backcountry so if you're interested in the story at all, give them a read:

Bitching stoke. Can't wait to get my next tropical trip in.
Ahem. Two pics below the croc jaws, wtf is that?? A swivel on a fly setup? Is anyone else running this? Benefits?"Yo!! Brentley! Ya wanna get faded before work?"

Lots of reasons. Preventing leader twist (probably not the main reason in this case). Quick fly changes. Keeping your bite tippet from getting too short from tying on new flies. It appears these boys are using knotable wire bite tippets. Other options would be crimped wire or really beefy tippet. Crimped wire is not a user friendly method, hence the knotable wire. Go tie a fly onto 60 - 100 lb mono and you'll see the advantage of the snap swivel.

That's awesome. I've tied 60#, so I'm familiar with the headache. I'd really like to see a diagram of the entire setup.

^ I run a similar setup when hunting large Pike. Provides great action on the fly, quick fly changes and less bite offs. I usually run heavy flouro mono but the big fish will eventually chew through it.
SICK stoke man!! WTF is that catfish looking one, the striped one?? Man what a trip you guys had, envious!

I thought the swivel setup worked really well, and it wasn't terribly hard to cast. We ended up making our own leaders with various sizes of fluorocarbon and titanium wire, incredible stuff.
The striped catfish is a type of Surubi. These things were hitting so hard! And they tasted fantastic.
I should definitely try and make it back one day!

Tsimane is the most exciting jungle destination to arrive on the angling scene in a generation and gets our vote as one of the top exotic fly fisheries on Earth. This small stream, sight-fishing hotspot boasts incredible numbers of two species of Dorado that occasionally tip the scales at up to 40 pounds, along with fierce Amazon Pacú that can weigh up to 25 pounds.

Pretty much the coolest trip I could imagine. Very well done.
How long were you out there? How dd you arrange for people to take you out, ahead of time or once in Bolivia?

Outstanding PROVO... Those nighttime sky pics are beautiful. Ditto on re-thinking of using one's fingers to remove fly....

This is literally my favorite trip report of all time - ski, bike, fishing, everything. I traveled around Bolivia for a month last year as part of a 5 month trip throughout South America. Bolivia was towards the end of my trip so I was running low on money and unfortunately couldn't get to any good fishing areas. I read the reports and looked at the photos though for inspiration! A fly fishing trip back to Bolivia is at the top of my list - truly one of the coolest, most unique and diverse countries I've ever been to
