Cannondale scalpel 4 29 thoughts
So getting back into it. Had trek before and fitted new trail 7 seemed good. But really want FS and can get 2013 for $1700. Also looking at giant and specialized. Thoughts comments and any advice. Thanks
I need to go to Utah.
Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?
So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Pedals like a champ, leaves a bit to be desired in the FS squish department.
Giant knocks it out of the park for pedalability vs fun factor and has reasonably priced bikes imo

Can you get a deal on/looked at the Trigger? Just got one, only have one ride on it but so far I love it. Plush and pedals great.

Can get scalpel 3 for 2k, is it worth $300 more?
Also looking at trek fuel 5 = $1250
Giant trance X2 $1400
fit will decide it, but all the different components is overwhelming
seems rock shox better than suntour and fox better than both?
Excelis brakes are best?
whats the deal with pivot point on shock? is upright rear better vs horizontal like o scalpel?

That trek doesn't have a very good fork and the rest of the parts aren't that nice. Between those three I'd go with one of the scalpels or the giant. The giant has more travel but I'd guess weighs a few lbs more.

The trek isn't worth it imo
for $300 more I would go Scalpel 3, but its easy to be a bike snob on the internet when its not your money
if you can ride the two bikes and justify it to yourself, break down the cost to per day of riding and things usually become pretty apparent, if lightweight XC bike is your goal a lefty makes a lot of sense to me
I think the better question is if the Scalpel 4 is worth $500 more than the Trance, I think the Trance is way more fun to ride but that all depends on your intended purpose for the bike, the Giant isn't spec'd great but also doesn't suck and $1250 for a FS bike isn't a bad deal.
With all gear choices its pretty easy to get overwhelmed, if you have the luxury test riding the bikes should have you sorted out, and remember that in two years you're just going to spend any money you saved on something shinier

Picked up a Cannondale Trigger 3 29er today for $1675. Sweet bike and pretty plush but still pedals like a champ. Hope to get in some good trails and will post a TR and review after some time. 30 lbs in an XL and 130 mm travel. First 4 miles today was effortless until I could not get out of click ins and fell over. Classic crash on residential street
