The fire theory is spot on. The front tire exploded on takeoff, fire ensued.

The Times article does nothing to disprove the (Wired) fire theory. They would have programmed the new route into the airplane to the 12k runway that was nearest then started working on putting out the fire by pulling the busses on the electrical systems to isolate it . I believe Occams razor applies here. Pilots succumbed to smoke and auto pilot flew them over the Indian Ocean before crashing in the sea.

More like that Twilight Zone when the aliens came to earth and conned a bunch of people back to their planet to eat them. Remember? The "cook book" episode.

That was a great one... still think the best TZ for this was Nightmare At 20,000' with Shatner.

^That's a good one... Iceman posted it earlier, too.

Continuing down the TZ wormhole... but I think I found the winner. Lots of irony:

They're definitely pinging assuming the beacon is working, but I really don't know the range of those things. Basically it's like a high-powered avalanche beacon. This is what toasted the Ethiopian 787 last year (improper installation of the beacon caused an electrical fire when the airplane was on the ground in Heathrow).

I think he's asking is why do they not function like EPIRB's on sailboats that send a GPS location when they are activated by a life raft being deployed etc..

CNN tells me that black boxes only have a range of a few miles under water, and a radio signal above ground of not much more. It would make sense that the design to take high impact might limit the capabilities etc..but why nothing separate dint he tail etc..

    Why damn it! just kidding.

They have just announced that the plane had changed course 12 minutes before the copilot gave an " all is well , good night" . This kind of debunks the fire theory if the timeline is to be believed.

He also thinks the world is flat because well, he looked outside and shit seemed pretty flat.

Call of the world's navies, Johnny McPilot knows where the plane is after looking at Google Earth.

    Pisteoff-

Aren't aircraft over a certain gross weight required to carry a 406 Mhz ELT? I know our heli's at work have the 406 Mhz capability (might be broadcasting 121.5 as well? can't remember).

Only works if it isn't attached to the aircraft and under 1000 ft of water.

Edit- I see this has been answered already.

A real clue or just another false alarm?

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...#ixzz2wNu3gWDA

A satellite image appears to show the missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 in the skies above a jungle.

The image is taken from Tomnod, the map search website currently being used by hundreds of thousands of people in an attempt to search for missing passenger plane, and was posted on Reddit on Sunday.

The authenticity of the photo has not yet been verified and the region depicted in the photo is as yet unknown. Intriguingly, the plane appears to have been painted white.

The image was found by an university student in Taiwan, according to Taiwan's China Times.

The image has surfaced at the same time as the news that Malaysian villagers claim to have seen the missing Malaysian Airlines jet flying over the north east of the country at around the time the aircraft is thought to have made a 'U-turn'.
