    A little crown

Picked this up of trewgears instapic page via Shaun Raskin. I believe she took the photo, but do not know for sure. Uinta range.

Erme from DPS went up with a few guys to look at some of the slides in the Uinta range... some crazy big slides.

Wow. Looks like some of the stuff you see on Baker and Hood from time to time.

Not familiar with the range, but that's a larger than average snowpack, yes?

Lots of wind in the Uintas. also some very wide open ridges and bowls.

Interesting. More snow than I thought. I assumed due to location (east of and in the rain shadow of the Wasatch) and orientation that they didn't get as much snow.

Edit: Makes sense with the windloading.

They don't get as much snow in general. some systems can favor that location, but it's relatively rare. (I think this season they got a couple favorable storms)

we always joke when it's real windy here in the Wasatch that all the snow is ending up in the Uintas

As big as it is, it still looks like it is on the smaller side of R4 for that terrain, no?

How often does a crown drop when folks are strolling around under it? Seems nuts to be below it, but they must know what they're doing. I get that the slab isn't pulling from below anymore, but that's a tremendous about of weight hanging above, resting on the same layer that sheared below the crown.
