Anyone privy to the name of the deceased guide? PM me? Can't get hold of my good buddy who works for WAH, stomach turning some knots waiting for more info.

Edit: thanks John B. Not my friend, but someone else's friend and family. Sad day. Condolences.

Looks like they're out, finally. And for what it's worth a couple of guides skied in after who weren't involved, so astro, if your buddy was one of those he might be busy yet. Hopefully!

We're going to miss you Jake. RIP. Best wishes to the friends and family of Shane as well; I know what they're going through and it sucks.

Here's hoping for smooth and complete recoveries to the injured as well.

So sad to hear. Went on a guided tour with WAH last year and their entire crew was a great group of people. Jake was not our guide but I believe we met him getting a beer after our trip. RIP Jake & Shane, my condolences to all those affected.

Jake was a great friend, a better man, and agreeably the best of any of our group with being on top of his game in the backcountry. He was always there with a quirky smile, great joke, or a bit of help if you needed it. His girlfriend is a close friend and had been following him around as they lived the dream together. They worked for the access fund out of Mazama this summer, replacing bolts on routes in the North Cascades. This guiding job was what he had dreamed of sharing with her.

He was simply the best guy. Everyone I know that knew him is in shambles, as the town of Bellingham lost one of its youngest best.

Sad situation. Condolences to Jake's and Shane's friends/family.

Reading about this, I couldn't help but think about A Dozen More Turns - experienced backcountry travelers die, people with major trauma waiting for a weather window to extricate.

So if I'm understanding this correctly, the tail guide, Jake Merrill, managed to call in the avalanche on his radio as he was being swept to his death?

Kind words and Driving snow, with a beer between brothers
and some poured out for ours lost, as his spirit, carried by the wind,
will bring joy and smiles to people whose life he had yet to touch.

Went out with a good group of friends the other day and came up with this after walking through trees that whispered his name.

Three months to the day and it lands on Mothers Day. It's not just.
