Getting Utarded this weekend -- need some advice
The GF and I figured that planning a road trip to SLC would increase the chance of a big storm hitting Tahoe in our absence, which appears to be the case.
Arriving Thurs night, staying in SE SLC 3 nights and Sun night at the Peruvian. Would like to hit Solitude/Alta/Snowbird during Fri - Monday..would like to have a BC day in there as well if conditions are suitable.
Sat looks like a storm day -- would Solitude be the less crowded option? Have only skied there once but found some interesting terrain. Maybe Snowbird on Monday. Any pro/con suggestions about our options appreciated.
Handful of SLC friends but none of them can go skiing while we are there, so if you want to show us around for a run or two drop me a PM.Know of a pair of Fischer Ranger 107Ti 189s (new or used) for sale? PM me.

Damn dude. I could assist with beer drinking in the Pdog on Sunday night, but am going under the knife tomorrow and will be couch bound.
Storm day Saturday at Soli is probably a good call.

Damn indeed. Figured I'd do some searches on good beer and food options -- I hear the Chartreuse and Mauve Iguana is the place to go right?

02-05-2014, 11:04 AM #4I need to go to Utah.
Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?
So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Solitude on Saturday is a good choice, bird will be least crowded on Monday. If you're avoiding crowds Sunday would be a good day to get into the BC. Then maybe ski Alta on Friday.

I'll be out there sun-weds. I think we're mostly skiing snowbird. Weather is looking favorable.
I'd try and ski snowbird on friday and alta on monday based on the current forecast since the castles tend to open up a couple days after the storms, but that can also be a gambleI wear crocs for the style, not the comfort.

I am also in SLC from now until Tuesday. Forecast looks great for BCC/LCC spots. Wondering how the snow will fare further north at Pow Mow or Snowbasin. Skied Snowbasin yesterday and nobody was there. Tree shots were great. Little pricey and upscale for my taste but hell it seems like everyone hates tree skiing there.

^^^ Ski Pow Mow, you less people then Snow Basin and definitely not the upscale vibe either. Powder Country shuttle is open too, the amount of terrain is unreal.

Atmospheric River.
Keep an eye on the road closure. Getting up LCC Sunday am will be a good call, it could be a bit of a shit show, but think of it as an investment in your near future. Drop your stuff at the Pdog and go skiing for the next two days. Snow levels are supposed to get kind of high on Sunday ~ 7500ft. The Peruvian Ridge Two Plank Elitist Snow Line could very well be in effect.
Again, goddamn. I wish I could show you around Alta.

The Wasatchsnowforecast.com forecast this morning had some interesting phrasing, beginning with the title "The word ‘inches’ is overrated . . ."
Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 6:50 am
Summary:
An impressive event is on tap for this weekend. Snow will fall near the Idaho border again today, spreading south later today into tonight. Snow tomorrow for all of Northern Utah. An atmospheric river takes aim at us this weekend with rising snow levels (up to 7,500 feet) and heavy snow above that. Snow will likely be measured in FEET by Monday night when it finally ends.Gravity Junkie

It seems the northern resorts are going to get killed by this event since they favor the southwestern flow. I would ski pow mow/snowbasin. Been snowing for a day there already.....

I skied Solitude last Thursday (a storm day) and the place was shockingly empty. I couldn't believe it. So yeah, I think that's a good plan.
Warning for Alta and Snowbird: try to get your tickets ahead of time or the night before or any time not first thing in the morning. The windows there are un-be-fucking-lievable. As in, how could it take this god damn long to get a ticket? Is the computer down? WTF? Great mountains, though.

^^Listen to this. Snowbird also doesn't start selling day tickets til like 8:15 or 8:30, and if you're going for first tram that ain't gonna work. And most of the time lines die down quite a bit after lunch, unless control work keeps Peruvian Gulch closed til the afternoon.

Not to hijack, but figured better to put my question in here rather than cunting up somewhere else. Getting utarded myself week after next, bringing the wife (its actually our late honeymoon) and her 80 waisted, college student on viagra stiff ice coast carving machines aren't gonna cut it.
Any suggestions on where to get demo level rentals in slc? We're starting in slc and skiing in a canyon (probably soli) before heading up to a condo in Ogden area for a few days. So slc/not too far out burbs would be best.
Anything in northern burbs so that swapping while in o-town won't be too tough? Not seeing much in those parts.

^yeah I had looked at ski n see, breeze, Utah ski and golf, canyon sports, etc.^
Analysis paralysis, too many shops, not enough good info to make a decision.
L9 might be good cause I'm a gear whore and had planned to go there anyway, but can't find any info on rentals/demo.
I should probably take this one to epic/az cause tgr is too core to rent. ;-)

L9 has no rental/demo and are not really that close to canyons.
I would just go with something close to canyon(or where your staying) for ease.
Shitloads of them within a couple miles of canyon. Ski Connection, Powder House, Lift House, Utah Ski and Golf, Twin Peaks, Arcs....
