People who fuck it all up late in life
Why do they do this? I'm talking about ppl in the 70s and 80s who have done the right thing forever, and then have affairs, double cross friends in business deals, stop giving a shit about their children/grand children, tell life long friends to basically fuck off, etc.
I have seen lots of this lately among my father and his peers. WTf?No Roger, No Rerun, No Rent

God bless anyone in their 70's or 80's who actually have enough energy and sex drive to have an affair.

Maybe it's a build up of remorse that they played by the rules or lived for others all their lives and now finally want to step outside the box and look out for their own interests finally. Maybe the finality of the coming darkness has their give-a-fuck-meter hitting on zero. Maybe some extent of a dementia thing reducing inhibitions might be a factor too. I don't know why it happens but it is some really whacky shit.

The three D's--dementia, desperation, and depression

Cause they've gotten to the point when they realized the straight and narrow was the wrong path, and the people they surrounded themselves with are all wrong?
I'll bet they didn't "rebel" when they were younger. Never questioned authority, married young, climbed the ladder.

I totally get the " I'm go into finally do something for myself" thing hit it has backfired on all of them. They are alone and broke when they should be surrounded by family in the nicer parts of Florida, Bermuda, Rockies, etc. Fucking retarded.
Some if the nice guys are fucked, too. Really depressing-No Roger, No Rerun, No Rent

Maybe it makes it easier to die if you create a mess you can just leave behind. "Man I'm glad I don't have to deal with that shit any more!" then, urk.

Chances are they have been doing this shit all along and it finally caught up to them. I'd say congrats on making it that far.

Manic behavior is some people's solution to depression. It allows the brain distraction and helps the conscious brain deny the underlying source of depression. Faced with the looming inevitability of death from a disintegrating body, is it so odd that some people will chose to indulge life affirming appetites, irrational though it may be? Raw emotions like anger, lust and greed are a powerful tonic. Long have they been used to manipulate others or to decieve one's self because when embraced these urges can suppress Man's basest emotion of all: fear of death.
A mind that cannot regulate this defense mechanism is referred to as bipolar. If the behavior is not cyclical and seems to be the result of poor judgement, we call it a midlife crisis. Whatever you call it, these people usually lack introspection.Last edited by neckdeep; 01-21-2014 at 10:11 AM.

This example isn't that old but I had a business associate/friend who was a real "nose to the grindstone" type of guy, worked his ass off, ongoing education, good family guy. He had saved a lot of money and invested well. He was actually kind of a mentor for me. When he got into his late 50's he started drinking heavily and dating strippers. Pretty soon his wife left him, he wrecked 2 company cars (drunk) and eventually got fired after he hired one of his stripper girlfriends and was banging her in the office. Pissed all of his money away too (dating strippers is expensive). Dude just snapped...who knows?

why do so many men become cranky as they get old. I've watched so many including my father slip into this trap. When we have high power jobs we feel important as many others depend on us. but retirement seems to drain the life out of some people.
We, the RATBAGGERS, formally axcept our duty is to trigger avalaches on all skiers ...

A lot are awfully poor these days, which could be a factor. Senior poverty is and will be at very high levels soon. I'd be pissed off if all I had was social security to live on.

If I spent my life building a small fortune, you'd better believe I would do my best to spend it all before I died.

They never made major mistakes when they were young and they want that shot at greatness. I'm fortunate to have made huge blunders with, education, life, work, and money early enough to learn important lessons and still thrive.
