Headed to Tahoe This Weekend-No Snow-What do do? Bach party

Heading from Bozeman to Tahoe to meet a few East Coasters for a Buddys Bachelor Party (staying at the Casinos) Tomorrow (Thurs) through Monday. Just wondering if the skiing is even worth attempting (we were going to hit up Kirkwood and Squaw if the conditions would have been decent but not sure if we will even go....is it even worth it? The snow is great here in MT, wish Tahoe was the same!!

That being said, what are some other outdoor things to do? I am familiar with the Tahoe area (been quite a few times)--we were looking at doing the following:

Hit up a Natural Hot Spring---is there one that is better than another?
Possibly do a hike/snowshoe, etc---any good trips worth considering (intermediate/advanced)?
May take a dinner cruise--wanted to do the Wed Night Beer Cruise but we won't be there
We may drive down towards Kirkwood and do some sightseeing, along with driving up to Squaw, Truckee, etc.

Any cool places to stop on the way from Sacramento on Hwy 50?

One last question---what Local Bars in the South Lake Vicinity are worth hitting up? Good Beer Stores, Breweries, etc? May hit up the Brewery in Carson as well.....

Thanks guys! Just looking for options!!

Honestly, if you haven't done it, it's worth skiing groomers at Heavenly for the views. Find a bachelorette party and chase them around the hill or something. That's what we always try to do in strange towns with my college buddies.

There is skiing worth the time but not the money if you don't have a pass.

There is certainly hiking to be done, but you won't need snowshoes. (I can't figure out why people snowshoe on rock hard snow but whatever.)

Kayaking on the East Shore is pretty legendary......no development, gorgeous water, etc.

Leaving from Sand Harbor (near Incline) is the main spot.....in summer this company brings boats, you could call them.

Probably can ride the Flume trail.....not sure where to rent bikes this time of year. Maybe actual Tahoe folks know (I am Reno)

Closest natural hot springs are about an hour 45 away. You could do Grover, but it's developed (a state park-about 45 mins from SLT). Pretty nice though.

If you fly fish, there is some water open and the weather's nice.

    Cocaine? Waffles? Hookers?

All perfectly acceptable options while hiking.

In southlake your options for decent bars/ quality nightlife are limited. Check out the HimmelHaus. Its some friends new venture in southlake and blows any of the shitty outdated tourist restaurants/bars out of the water, lots of really good german beers on tap and good food. Also there are some great taco spots on the Cali side but not even as good as La Tinga in bozeman if you ask me. However if you come up to northlake, where the true residents and culture of Tahoe resides then goto the Crystal Bay Casino and see if they have any good shows the weekend your there. There is a great beer bar nextdoor too called Mellow Fellow. If your into fine dining check out Trokay in truckee but pass on the truckee bar scene unless your into bros, confined spaces and well whisky.
For natural hotsprings and general sightseeing head down to bridgeport, about an hour from southlake there are 2 really nice hotsprings, both on public land and free and amazing mountains to gawk at.
Dont waste money skiiing at the resorts, even when its good doesnt compare to bridger/bigsky for terrain or snow quality. Have fun

    Hookers and blow. Duh.

Since there's not much skiing, you'll probably have to do more (hookers and blow, that is).

Find the Sigma Six game at Montbleu, play it. It's an old school horse racing game that is kind of fun, plus you'll get free drinks if you're playing (and you can't lose that much). It is also a magnet for bachlorette parties and large groups of girls. There are supposedly a bunch of night clubs within the bowels of the huge casinos complete with fire dancers and stuff, but that's all hearsay to me.

Steamers is one bar with bar food that won't be overrun with tourists. There are better bars and restaurants in Meyers (Divided Sky) but that's gonna be a spendy cab ride from stateline. Most of the restaurants in South Lake pretty much blow with a few exceptions. I don't know why people gush about Himmel Haus, their menu was microscopic, expensive and uninspiring the one time I went there but its certainly the local flat-billed hat broheims hang of choice.

Sprouts has healthy burritos, shots of wheat grass and lots of pretty hippy chicks making the food. Artemis is good mediterranian food and there is a bar in the same mall called Turn 3 that some people like. Basecamp Pizza in the Heavenly Village is supposedly really good, never been, but it's close to you. The best pizza in my experience is Lake Tahoe Pizza Company on the west side of town. There are no less than 4 taquerias that are all called Jalesco's, there are two that are good. One is behind Rojos, which is also a bar you might check out, the other is in a strip mall near Whiskey Dick's which might also be worth your time, esp. if you and your posse are into bar fights. Jalapenjos is also a good place for mexican, but its on the west side of town. Do not go to Brothers for mexican. You've been warned. Burger Lounge used to be good, but it has changed ownership. You can probably get as good a burger at Riva Grill or Izzys. Don't eat at Snowflake no matter how kitschy and cool it may look. The seriously baked crew of 16 y/os can't screw up a soft serve cone but can screw up everything else. There are two thai places Orchid and another place formerly called Nakorm and both are pretty solid but service can really suck. Don't go on a weekend/holiday. The best breakfast places are on 50 on the west side of town, they are called Berts (better) and Ernies. The original Red Hut is pretty good too, but is small and can be crowded.

Buying a lift ticket for a day at Heavenly might be worth it. There isn't much terrain open but what is open skis reasonably well. The sights certainly don't suck either. There are lots of trails that are melted out, no slowshoes needed. The bike shops have bikes out front of them right now so I'm guessing they are renting. Sierra Ski and Cycle Works http://www.sierraskiandcycleworks.com/biking/ Go to this shop, they can rent you bikes and tell you where to ride. They certainly know what's up trail wise and there is definitely some riding to be had right now.

^^^ Good advice. Basecamp Pizza is pretty good. My group all enjoyed it when we were in there a few months back. Good selection on tap too.

Re: clubs 'n shit, when we did a buddy's bachelor party in SLT in 2009, we had bottle service at Vex. We received a lot of attention from bachelorette parties. I had a good time, and I'm not a club person at all. Even those of us with SOs took made bets on whether we could get random chicks' numbers. If you have an outgoing group, that can be a good time.

Heading to Tahoe for yet another Bach party/ski trip this week. Staying in South Lake again. I realize Horizon is now Hard Rock so that should be an improvement!

Any new restaurants or food recommendations?

Also as for skiing, after the latest snow we are looking at skiing Kirkwood and Squaw. What is another place you guys recommend, especially after the latest snow? I have heard good things about Sugar Bowl.

1 last question--any places to score discount tickets besides liftopia?

    Thanks guys!!

I got a 2 for 1 voucher with a fill up at a Shell gas station. They are good at Sierra at Tahoe, Homewood and Mt. Rose. Not a bad deal but I'm not sure if they are still available.
