    • The STH2 WTR speaks to that silly WTR "standard" along with of course, Alpine.

Whether the difference is significant, I don't know but I'd expect the Warden to have slightly more toe height adjustability (accommodating more boot rocker). Just a guess.
The difference is significant: WTR soles are not as rockered as normal touring soles and they have a piece of hard plastic in the sole part that sits on the AFD.
The Warden has higher toe height adjustability to accept more rockered soles as well as a sliding AFD so they work with rubber soles...

Thanks! This makes perfect sense, and the sliding AFD in the Warden (a la Duke, Lord, etc.) is very cool

Perhaps WTR isn't a "silly" standard, but I hate to see proliferation that doesn't make sense. The inclusion of an AFD area in the boot standard is way cool, but with the word "walk" in WTR, it would have made sense if this new, proposed standard sole had an AT rocker profile, which was after all designed for walking. Perhaps Salomon feared that a lot of gapers would rent skis with standard bindings and create a whole mess of problems for themselves (and legal problems). Oh well, that's for another thread and we're not gonna change that. I'm just glad that there's an alternative to the Marker Lord.

Not sure if this has been brought up, but Cochise tech soles do not fit in all Solly bindings. I was able to adjust my STH16s and 916s high enough, but my 900s will not. Have not tried the 997s yet, but I'm guessing they won't either.

Never had any release issues with my 916s or STH16s. They came off when they were supposed to.

^ Older Solly toes have a stop washer swedged onto the bottom of the height adjustment screw, making it impossible to "adjust too high" or remove the upper from the pedestal. If you want to adjust the toe higher than spec, the STH16 is probably the way to go due to its metal pedestal. If you need a lower DIN, put an STH12 Driver upper on an STH16 pedestal.

It was throwback Saturday - my first time on Alpine binders in some 20 years - my first day with Wardens freshly mounted on a new pair of Atomic Automatic 109's. No concerns (starting off with a relatively low DIN setting), no unintentional release & with high confidence on chattery steep terrain. What's not to like?

I noticed that my mindset is different than it is with pin-tech bindings (especially Dynafit Vertical ST's). I noticed this even on easier terrain. Skiing with pin-techs for so long had become ingrained in my operating assumptions and I realized that I was skiing more conservatively. I need to qualify this ... I'm reasonably confident in both my Ions (on a pair of Megarides) and a pair of Onyx's which were mounted on a pair of Coombas. I look forward to trying both Vipecs & Kingpins, but that's the subject for another thread (and a next year acquisition).

It's nice to have a dedicated area ski for skiing inbounds for the first time in two decades.

BTW, with a pair of Dynafit Titans, there's about an additional 2-3mm of available upward adjustment in the toe piece, so more rockered boots will work.

Dunno about Cochise's, but in a current (related) active thread on this topic, someone reports good results - barely squeaking by with their Maestrale RS's. In the next day or two, I'll verify this on a pair of Mango Maestrales. Here's the cross-link to that thread (post #18): http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/s...45#post4453045

To save you linking over, here's what he said:

I will say that I maxed out raising the toe to accommodate the rocker of the boot though, probably a worst case as flatter soled more "freeride" oriented AT boots like my BD Factors don't push the height limits.

Anyone ski on Pivot/FKS with Titans and tech sole? realized half way thru my ski day I had my tech soles on but didn't have any problems. Didn't fall though... I'm on vacation and didn't bring the alpine soles so will be doing the same tomorrow. Just curious if anyone has done the same.
