I enjoy mine and ski them with TLT6 boots and Dynafit Speed Turns. Nice and turny in the trees at home and also were great for six days of touring in Austria after a storm cycle. Pretty versatile in soft snow, although I only grab them when the snow's really deep as I prefer a narrower ski in the 95-100mm width most of the time.

Bumping an old thread here, but wondering what people think about these to be potentially dual purpose as a mid-winter touring ski and a ski for storm days at the resort (aka trees). Are they too floppy to use at the resort? Even on pretty soft but deep days.

I haven't had any problem skiing these inbounds for 2-3 hours on powder mornings until things get really chewed up. Definitely no crud busting chops in the V8. Maybe the Supercharger is better for that?

As far as backcountry goes, for tight trees and the variable types of 3D snow we get in the inland NW, I couldn't be happier. Ive got 3 other touring rigs and the v8s tend to see 80% of the action mid winter.

Only time I've ever skied V8s was at a resort (Voile demo event at Brighton). I thought they were pretty sweet going fast in chop, but (a) it wasn't very deep chop, and (b) I was coming off 172 Sir Francis Bacons I got in high school and comparing those to 183ish V8s, so I imagine anything would feel better at speed.

But yeah those V8s in Gear Swap right now look real nice.

My V8s are my big (24"+ new snow) day lift-served ski. I usually swap them out for my Automatics midday after things get chopped up.

On another point, I have not changed my view that the 186 boot center spec is 2.5cm too far forward.

All that info is good enough for me...caving and made an offer in Gear Swap.

Steve didn't you chop the tails off your V8's?

I've not skied the V8s, but I do have many years on my beloved Chargers. I actually bought some V8s from backcountry.com.
I should've checked them out more at a shop before trusting the reviews on them. For me, the amount of tail rocker was silly- why would you design a bc ski like this?
I do like a bit of tail rise for billy-goating and being able to disengage the tail if needed, but I thought it was a lot of useless material/extra weight. Plus, for the times when a kick turn is needed on steep switch backs, the giant tail rocker would catch on your other ski...
I even contacted Voile and asked them if they'd be making something similar to their old Charger and they said they had something in the works-perhaps the Supercharger...

My Chargers are not the lightest ski out there, but for a 181 at 112 under foot, they're pretty good. I may try a pair of Superchargers this season-looks to me like a more touring oriented, versatile ski than the V8...

Reviving this thread because I bought a pair of 186 Hyper V8's, skied them once, and the suggested mount point felt wayyyy too far forward. So I took Voile's chart and compared the ratio of recommended mount points vs the ski lengths for each length of the V8/Hyper V8, and the 186 is significantly further forward than all the other lengths. (See below. This would explain why people on the 176 wouldn't think the mount point is an issue.) If you apply the average ratio of the 5 other lengths to the ratio of the 186, the 186 mount point should be at 100.7 cm. Anyway, I had these remounted 2 cm back, and they look a lot more proportional. I will report back after I get a chance to ski them this weekend.

    Length 165 Mount Point 89.9 Ratio 0.544848485
    Length 171 Mount Point 92.9 Ratio 0.543274854
    Length 176 Mount Point 95.9 Ratio 0.544886364
    Length 181 Mount Point 97.3 Ratio 0.537569061
    Length 186 Mount Point 98.7 Ratio 0.530645161
    Length 193 Mount Point 103.5 Ratio 0.536269430

After riding the Hyper V8s the last few weekends, I can confirm 2 cm behind the line on the 186 is much improved (for me).

Any thoughts on the Voile V8?

So reviving a thread since it drove my purchase. Picked up 193 and was a little concerned but based on some mags comments I went for it. Took them out today in fresh pow and packed powder at Alta. It is stupid light with tecton for a ski that is 150/119/130. Mounted on rec the line of -104.8 with tecton and using dalbello AX 120. It was great on the up in the ski track and deep transitions. It broke trail well and float was excellent. On the down it is quick to initiate, super stable and just a ton of fun. Support local

I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues
