Summer ski bum work. An edit.

This summer I have been working for a tree service company that does residential and larger gov jobs. This is an edit of one of our most exciting and fun contracts this summer. Jackstraw work can be a bit scary. Post up your pics, vid, or words on how you maintain your winter lifestyle through summer employment.

Really nice...except for widowmakers, and maybe leaners. Great edit too.

Since I retired from the fire game my summer employment currently is a little movie extra work* and some yardwork/landscaping, but I support my winter lifestyle by working in the winter. Here's a short shot of me at work:

    * A Million Ways To Die In The West - look for it next summer.

Nice one Meadow Skipper! Where do you patrol?

And yeah, it's complete chaos but I am finding myself strangely addicted and I can't wait for my next day doing jackstraw!

You have to have a good widowmaker story by now.

interesting video, having never worked on trees. Dumb questions - what happened to the trees, blight? Fire in the crowns? Is that somewhere on the SF Peaks? And how is anyone gonna skip that meadow with all the jackstraws lying around?

Too many just from last week! I seriously almost got crushed by a tree that fell the opposite way a coworker planned because of rot, as I ran away and then paused I realized a second 75 foot tree was taken out and was coming my way. It was ridiculous! I did get away unscathed except for a falling branch that hit me in the back bruising me. Jackstrawing is slightly stupid but addicting like fun!

The Shultz fire back in 2010 burned all of these trees. It was a 15,500 acre fire from a campfire. The jackstraw work is to straw a bunch of dead trees across the slopes to keep the elk from eating all of the aspen saplings.

Strong work there Slaag, although I did expect to see a different crop harvested outta there. Did you also raise purple chickens?
