So does this mean you're thinking of heading into the backcountry again? Would be good to see you out there.

    Yup... It's happening.

I did a small zero risk tour last year and it solidified how much I love it and miss it.

Sounds good shaunv. Drop me a pm. I'm in those areas, and have a similar view on conditions. Also looking for a reliable crew.

Farnham and AS's secret stash that I am in no position to disclose the location of and I'm sure there are a lot more.. There are a couple of options if you are willing to drive into the woods a little bit.

Some video from April to keep the stoke flowing

Went for a... nice relaxing bushwhack/scout today. Thought I might as well give a conditions report for those itchin to get out.

Solar aspects have iso snow, go figure. Won't need much snow to make it skiable though, if we get a freeze before fresh.

~2300m, NW aspect in Dogtooth Range, S of the resort:

Me, I'm just an AquaToque groupie. Followed him to EarnYourTurns, which is pretty tele dominated for now what with TT refugees, but the premise is backcountry, agnostic on the binding so I'd expect that that changes. Most of the TT Albertans were on AT anyways, and I've seen most of the three or four regulars there already. Anyways, current premise is Read-Contribute there, Monitor here.

Be migrating trip reports from Waddington, Bugaboo-Roger's, and Valhalla to EYT at some point, and I have a beta version of Euro style tour guidebook for an, umm, area which I want to circulate eventually.

Well it's taken a while but here's some shots of mine and time2clmb's surprisingly excellent first turns of the season at Rae on 26th September.

The June floods had ravaged some of the gully sections where the normal skin trick is. Time2clmb's optimism in what was still skin-able was admirable but ultimately ended in failure.

The spot on the far skier's right where we skied our second lap.

Neither of us could quite believe the 115cm base up high.

About to drop in on lap one.

    And then lap two.

For some reason time2clmb's photos looked professional compared to mine. Must be the fancy camera he has. These shitty iphone pics don't quite do it justice but you get the idea - September faceshots we were definitely not expecting when we set out that morning.

The moose were out in force - this guy being one of the four we saw that day.

That reminds me, I have to send in for a new toe piece. I'll get a couple shots up. Definately won't be short on stoke and shots this season, just a matter of finding time to get them up here. Might have to just blog them so i'm not doing things 3x. Will upload a few shortly.

We could have skinned in, but I didn't feel like trashing yet another pair of skis so we hiked up to the campground and from there, there was plenty of snow for skinning on.

Where the trail enters along side of the creekbed, it looked a bit unrecognizable. It's still straight forward, just different. You can tell the water had done some damage. The Canyon feature was shifted around a bit from what I remember, and we entered it a bit further along than what we normally do. Some of the boulders have shifted a bit and it was slower progress than normal through here.

Up to treeline and the rest looks the same. Spooky has a look at what's to come.

Was picking up an icey crust on the way up, and with more snow up there than expected we took a quick peek in to the snow to see how things were setting up. 110cm in that general spot....110 and fresh = good times.

And Spooky kicks up a rooster tail of snow mixed with rock, just as a reminder that it is indeed still September.

    MOOOOOOOOOOOSE
