I'm going to Whistler, come with me!
So, I'm finally making it to British Columbia to ride next month!!! Leaving SLC Friday 7/26 and getting back Sunday 8/4. Got a buddy who's guiding NOLS and is meeting me up there, it will be his second time. We're planning 3 - 4 days in Whistler, a day riding Pemberton, and a couple days around Squamish. Camping/dirtbagging the whole thing. If anyone around me wants to come let me know!! It would be great to hang out with peeps and have someone to split gas and related costs with. Or maybe I can pick you up someplace on the way? We'll be riding a lot of DH obviously, but also a fair amount of trail riding. We're pretty chill, early 30's, ride hard, total bike geeks, hippies and dirtbags. We're definitely not bro brah, but we do love to ride!

And... one addition, anyone got camping recommendations in/around Squamish?

Camp at Alice Lake or Cat Lake

Alice is full up apparently, along with most everything else in the area that is Provincial. From my interwebz research it doesn't appear we can reserve Cat Lake, is that right? Any idea the likelihood of it being all full around August 1st?
What about the private places like Dryden Creek and Klahanie?"The world is a very puzzling place. If you're not willing to be puzzled you just become a replica of someone else's mind." Chomsky

Cat Lake will be full if its a long weekend or sometimes -- even a weekend. It's not bad in weekdays even in summer so try to get in there on weekdays. Never stayed at Dryden or Klahanie

Not much of a dirtbag if you are actually looking at the BC Parks camp sites.
Find open logging road, drive in and find a suitable spot.

^^ Don't ever question my ability to dirtbag
But, yeah, you're kind of right. My buddy already booked camping the first half of the week at established campsites so I was just kind of following his lead. I'm usually on the find an abandoned road program. That's cool to do up there? I'm assuming not quite as easy as BLM land in Utah... no problems though?"The world is a very puzzling place. I'm still doing this if anyone wants to catch a ride. Going from SLC to Snohomish Friday, then up to Whistler on Saturday. Also, if anyone wants to ride while we're there hit me up.
And, last but not least, anyone got an inside line on ticket deals to Whistler?"The world is a very puzzling place. If you're not willing to be puzzled you just become a replica of someone else's mind." Chomsky

Good luck with the border crossing!!
I'm assuming nobody has any legal slip ups in the past 30 years? E.g. DUI.
Might want to tone down the dirtbag look if so and cross yer fingers!!!

Ha, I might be a dirtbag but I'm not a delinquent! No DUI's or drug charges ever - and I cut the dreads years ago. With the Utah plates and license I'm just going to throw a Book of Mormon on the dash and I'll be able to skate through anything. Of course all the beer cans in the bed of my truck might conflict with that image.

When are you guys planning to be riding around Squamish? Could try to meet you out there for some shenanigans. Slowly transitioning from spandex-clad xc racer to baggie-wearing trail shredder, so I don't jump off of anything too big, but other than that I'm up for anything.

hmmmm....got a big crew rolling into town to ride Whistler Thurs - a while from now. So, I won't be in squam, but if you wanna know what to ride I can give you some deets. best advice is to stop by Tantalus and get a SORCA map. It is super accurate and the trail signage is legit. If you have data enabled on your phone, there are apps for the maps that will show your current position....

Nice. Yeah we'd love some insider beta. We ended up riding trail around Whistler today - thought that we'd do the resort after the weekenders leave; did Pura Vida, High Society, and North Danimal (with all the little connectors that go along with those). I enjoyed Pura Vida and High Society (at least the down parts, I'm not very good at techy climbing), not sure my friend did as much, a little too technical overall for him. We both really enjoyed North Danimal, I felt like I could open it up more. We're hitting the park tomorrow for sure.
We'll be in Squam for three days (Thurs-Sat), so if you're headed back that way let me know!"The world is a very puzzling place. If you're not willing to be puzzled you just become a replica of someone else's mind." Chomsky

NICE! Like I said, I think I will be in Whistler while you are in Squam and you are there while I am riding here! Again, get the sorca trail map. start your tour at the alice lake parking area. drive up into the park and drive right through the mega large parking lot. then turn right, go about a 1/2 mile to another parking lot and park there. At the far end of that lot, you will see the entrance to jacks trail ( a green). ride about 3-5 minutes down in and you will see a climb trail on your left (50 shades of green). this is the only trail that is not on the sorca map as it is brand new. climb it (should take 15-20 mins). at the top, turn right onto mike's loop. ride mikes for about 5 mins and you will come to credit line, which is a great black intro to squam am riding. if you go past credit line, you will climb another 15-20 mins to another T, where you will turn right. ride that 10 mins to a Y. left is Value-Added (fucking gnar long committed granite slab moves), right is Entrails, a lovely black techy trail. go right. if you are feeling sporty, about 10 mins into entrails, there will be another split. right is entrails, left is mark my words. mark my words is a rad double black with short, but challenging slab moves. Otherwise, continue down entrails and then rouchambeau and choose one of the black trails entrails will connect to. your overall goal is to dump out on a double track road and turn right, heading back to the bottom of jacks. find jacks, climb 20 mins back to your car and go for a swim in the lake.
plan B. follow the map up to Garibaldi Park (turn right off 99 on Mamquam road and follow signs to Quest University). Pass quest, go from pavement to dirt road, get into the park and you will see an obvious first parking area on your left. park there. follow the obvious climb trail up an hour grind. that will take you to the top of Angry Midget (signed AM on the sorca trail) - fun techy and steep. if you go past that, you will come to the top of half nelson - ride it. at the very bottom of half nelson, you will pop out on a road junction. go uphill/right and pedal the road for 20 mins to the top of psuedo-tsuga and ride psuedo back to your car.
ride 3 - park down by quest uni townhomes that you passed just before the road turned to dirt and you entered garibaldi park. climb up the road, past the parking area on the left referenced above. grind up the road for 15 minutes, past a single lane section of pavement with a cliff wall on the right. go to the obvious big dip in the road and you will see a pull off on the right. go that way and you will see a trail in front of you. ride it for 10 mins to a bridge crossing. grind up that road for 20 mins and you will come to and pass two trail junctions. just keep going straight/up. eventually you will see another juncture and it will say that directly ahead is powerhouse plunge. ride that shit down, down, down to the first road crossing (which is about 3/5 of the way down the trail). at the road turn right and grind through a clear cut. keep going the obvious way up, up, up. you will eventually re-enter the forest and then after 3-5 mins will come to a 4 way junction. straight is somewhere over there, right is hoods in the woods. both are sick, somewhere is a fair bit harder, but fun and flowy. ride whichever one you choose down to the road and turn right. grind up to the poop connector trail and ride it. that will take you across a bad ass narrow bridge and then you will pop out on another road. turn right, ride for 3 minutes and you will pop out on the pavement right below your car. sickie.
those 3 rides will keep you busy and tired. if you want more hairball shit, seek out value added->penthouse slab->larvicide in the alice lakes area and try not to die. seriously.
boom.

Ride 3 can be done right after ride 2 (minus pseudo tsuga) in 1 ride if your legs are feeling good.
You can also ride up jacks from town to the 50 shades trail, do entrails/credit line/etc... Then back up jacks to the lakes and do the climb to crouching squirrel? From there cross the hwy on the pedestrian overpass, ride through the neighborhood to the river, and head to the watershed for beers and food.smoke crack and worship satan

ATTENTION: MAJOR MISTAKE IN TRAIL ONE DESCRIPTOR: I say that at the Y, value added is left and entrails is right. THAT IS BACKWARDS. I must have had my head up my ass. To stay on Entrails, go left (not right) at the fork. Sorry for the misinformation!
And yeah, as white choco says, if your legs are feeling it, there are a hundred ways to link these rides together, lengthen then up to include a bunch of other sweet trails, or other connectors if you want to step up the hairball factor.

Shit guys, thanks for all the beta! Rode the park yesterday, Freight Train and A-line were my favorites by far (Top O' The World was also pretty damn spectacular). Good god, I think A-line is top 5 in the biking book. We put in close to 8 hours yesterday and were worked.
We took a break and went up to Pemberton today. Fairly dry with some moon dust in that region. We did Nimby/Backpain/Waco/and some other newish down trail that wasn't on the map (thanks Pemberton Bike Co.) Trying to determine tomorrow. We might rest up another day and then hit the park hard again on Thursday - then Squam Friday/Saturday and maybe Sunday. My buddy did Half Nelson last year and we're definitely doing it this time, but really I think we're going to follow all three options from reid (with the addendum to the first).
We might meet up with up_down as well, if anyone else wants to ride just let us know. I thought I had it good in Utah, but damn, BC is another planet!
EDIT: We're thinking that we'll shuttle Comfortably Numb tomorrow - good idea?"The world is a very puzzling place. If you're not willing to be puzzled you just become a replica of someone else's mind." Chomsky

Climb up Yummy Nimby - do Numb backwards - take the cutoff - then either down the BC Bike race route and back to the Lost Lake trails ---- or - over the Wedge Crk bridge and down Young Lust. Kind of hard to explain and it will need a map. CN is a technical climb and technical downhill with no real long DH payback done the "right" way.
If you do CN the right way, then bring lots and lots of water

....So, if we're a bit tired and saddle sore, probably "no" on CN? What if we shuttle Kill Me Thrill Me, anything short and sweet we could add to that to make it a day?
