Bumping this thread from the depths because summer is the true fatbike season! If it wasn't such a goddamn pain in the ass I would post some pics as well but that will have to wait.
It's been a blast learning to make ski turns down scree fields and the trails around here in interior AK are shitty ass atv trails full of loose rock and or mud. Basically perfect for a fatbike. Spent a day riding at the Carcross Desert on the way up that was super fun as well as some sand dunes right in the middle of the grey mountain system in Whitehorse that featured a giant sand half pipe running down between 2 dunes.
For dirt riding I've been running the surly nates with about 12-15 psi rear and much lower in the front 8-10? I don't have a low pressure pump so just by feel usually. Does anyone out there have the rolling Daryll tires? Thinking about snagging a pair for pavement carving and maybe as a front tire for sand riding....tricks deserve applause, style deserves respect

The rolly D is a tire now? I have the Rolly D rims laced for work on my Pugs.
AK has lots of beach combing potential and even that adventure shit with a packaraft . Have phun and post up pics even if its BLAS.
Oh and get a low press gauge, it makes all the difference when you dial in the best psi for you and what you are riding.
Larry tires which can be had cheap are a good sand tire from wot I read on the webbernets.watch out for snakes

Whoops, I meant the black floyd tires. Thinking one in the front might be nice for sand dunes similar to how sand rails run a smoothie tire in the front

Should I rent one when I'm in the Outer Banks in a few weeks? Are they fun or stupid on a beach? Will the POS they rent me give me a good feel for fatty life?

Riding existing hiker use trails in a non-wilderness area is not exactly not giving a fuck
It's a big drop back to lake level from the top of that peak, 3rd time I've done it. First was on 2.4 26" wheels and barely ridable, second time on 29+ tires way more fun, this time I was running 4.8 fat tires, and could totally bomb down never feeling out of control at all, super fun.

Luvin it!
It killz the downs, almost like a deadicated DH bike. Little slow on the ups but thats mostly me being out of shape and not riding as much as I should. No real issues with the bike. Still running Nates front and rear. The split pivot design feels so much like the Stumpy FSR its hard to tell them apart.
It wuz worth the wait.watch out for snakes

I wish it could handle a bigger tire in the back. Gonna wait for 2nd gen full squish fat and see what's what for 5" capacity. Hopefully the wait won't be too long.
