Spring Break surf trip
Me and some friends here at montana state are taking a spring break road trip to SoCal. We are camping about a mile and a half away from the San Onofre beach in orange county with the intention to try to learn to surf. From what I heard, we will get nowhere in the 4 days we will be at the beaches. I know that this will most likely turn out to be a skim/boogie boarding trip, but we are willing to give surfing our all.
Can anyone recommend any good reads for poor college kids who can't afford lessons?
I've been told to rent the long (~12ft?) foam boards to learn on. Being waveriding gapers, a crash course in beach/ocean etiquette would be appreciated.
Any info on the area/surfing/having a good time at the beach would be great.I love big dumps.

This is the part where we'd tell you about how locals rule and yuppie insects like you shouldn't be surfing our break and all that, but that would be a waste of time.
We're just gonna fuck you up.
