    Shimano electronic road shifters?

They've been around a little while. Anybody have them? Durability? Almost 900 bucks extra on a bike I'm building. Are they worth it?

    They work really well.

Worth the coin? Of course not - they only shift gears.

If the price tag doesn't scare you, though...go for it.

I'd do it for cyclocross, but not for road.

Ultegra and Dura-Ace options, as well - so you could save $ going with the trickle-down setup. Works just the same.

I rode electronic for a few years. Sold them in exchange for a week of skiing in Telluride.

They are worth it if you absolutely hate working on your bike...adjusting your derailleurs, replacing shift cables, etc.

They are not worth it if you don't mind doing that basic maintenance.

10 years from now everything will be electronic, and it'll be amazing, but for now they aren't there yet (especially the first generation 7970 Shimano).

If you're going to do it, get ultegra or the 2nd gen DA.

If you travel with your bike then stay away - any defects can easily shut you down if no good shop with eventual spare parts around. The good ole mechanical shifters are way easier to get a fix for en route.

The only notable advantage - if you consider it as such - is the rear and front derailleur shifting to the bigger chainrings since the motoric works a tad more precise than cables. And this is mainly because the actual Ultegra STIs have been downgraded compared to previous generations. To me SRAM Force or RED shifters are almost on par with Shimano's electronic ones and when having high end mechanical shifters no one really needs anything different. There's a lot of hype in the market right now IMHO and bobdesk is pretty much spot on.

I've ridden both Campy and Shimano electric on a few different bikes, including racing CX and a few muddy gravel road races with them. They work good, they work in the mud. I've had a few issues, mostly related to me bumping the levers while climbing and sprinting.... but other than that...

If you do ultegra di2 you have the option of having the battery stuff in your seat post... Campy stuff is hard to get parts for....
Since then it's been a book you read in reverse, so you understand less as the pages turn.

The things you find on the net.

I love the look of the 7800, on a Colnago Master it just seems to all fit...

The Red is getting tough to beat.

Isnt it an unwritten rule that Colnago gets Campy?

Not in my garage, should but I don't feel cool enough. Campy makes me feel inadequate. There I said it.

An extra 9 beans ? (for something I'm not sold on, there is also something that bothers me about electronic shifting, besides the rediculous price, Bikes are supossed to mechanical, arent they?), I'd put that money into the wheel set or towards the second wheel set.

There's something about electronic shifting on a human powered bike that seems....wrong.
    No longer stuck.

so if your shifters on your bike cost more than your car, does that make you core?
