Multiple vehicle accident - insurance question
So about 3am this crazy chick comes around the corner on our street and plows into the back of my neighbors truck, pushing it into my truck and my other car. She totalled her new dodge crew cab and mangled up our vehicles pretty good too. I would assume there's going to be some pretty big insurance payouts. Here's the tricky part, both vehicles were not registered in my name. I was planning on selling both of them so they were pretty much sitting out front with no plates on em. Cops wanted to see the titles, which I had. they were notarized open titles with no buyers name. I quickly put my name on both of them to look more legit. Not sure if I had to but I was in a dilapidated state on my birthday night. On a funny side note the chick fled the scene for about a half hour then came out to confess that she was getting beaten by her boyfriend and she was trying to escape. Pretty cool watching her do field sobriety tests with high heels and daisy dukes. Anyway back to the question at hand, will the insurance try and fuck me over?

yes
How do they do it down there? up here in a multiple rear ender the only driver that doesn't get some blame is the very 1st car in the row that didn't hit a car in front of it
so even if all the cars were all insured the 2nd car in the sequence (you) would be at fault for hitting the 1st car (you) but if you don't have any insurance for vehicals parked on a public road ... let us know what happens?Lee Lau - xxx-er is the laziest Asian canuck I know

Is it even legal in your state to have vehicles not registered and insured on a road? I know in MA you would be fucked.
Hell, if you're parked legally on a public road here and have an expired inspection sticker the meter maids will write you a ticket every day. I had an ex that used to park at meters overnight near my place and got 5 tickets for her inspection sticker. Dummy.Brought to you by Carl's Jr.

Lack of registration and insurance is not relevant to negligence in most states. It's a violation that results in a fine, but the woman who hit the cars is the liable one. Your lack of regaistration and insurance did not cause or contribute to the accident. Hopefully Daisy Duke had insurance.

While I agree, I think it may depend on the state. With MA, it is illegal for someone to have an unregistered and uninsured car on the road. Sure it wasn;t his fault, but I assume that if this is the case in their state, the insurance company will argue that if the vehicle was illegal and shouldn't have been there, than the won't cover. Just a guess though.

Some people seem to be confused about whether you were in the car at the time of the accident. I read that your car was parked next to your neighbor's and this woman just plowed into the neighbor's parked car and subsequently yours. Is that correct?

^^^That's how I read it. Would it be illegal to park an unregistered vehicle on a public road? No clue. But is that chick liable for the damage anyways? I'd be amazed if her insurance can wiggle out of that one although I'd also be amazed if they don't try.

Pics of Daisy Duke (marker should sell this as a female specific binder) or it didn't happen!
I agree with James P. depending on state you may not have to register a vehicle if its gonna be resold shortly. And while some states tow unregistered vehicles parked on the street.
None of this matters. Daisy for whatever reason caused damage to these vehicles, two of which you own. She owes you for repairs or value of vehicle.
Which is exhibit número uno for getting fucked by insurance companies. They will low ball the value, total it, pay off the pittance and move on. Unless you are comfortable that the damage < value, get on auto trader or similar site and start documenting comparable rigs and their values. Use that info to push back on the adjusters offer.
This is wisdom borne of pain - Ms TBS got hit hard enough to total a Mercedes, a Subie and a Saab - in one year.

Her liability should cover it. The fact that she was cited will probably have her ins company looking to pay fast so you don't sue for more. As others have said, you might have issues for an unregistered car on the road but those are your property and a separate issue. Her negligence caused damage to someone else's property so she's liable to make that person whole.

Well shit, does anyone know how a restitution request claim works?
The local police department informed me that it's a big mess and the chick did not have any insurance, stole the uninsured truck from her sister and well, probably fucked up 50k worth of vehicles.
They said they'd get back to me on it. My shit ain't nice but now it's crushed in like a tin can

I think you can have your insurance company go after her and probably her sister as well

Not sure if her sister really is trying to weasel... I'll look into that more
Turns out I forgot to cancel one of the policies, and I still had liability on the truck that took the most damage. Turns out I'm still fucked because it was just liability.
I have a pretty good feeling that restitution from a 24 yr old is going to be a joke. Maybe her parents will pay her way out. Although If they were smart they'd probably spend that money on a lawyer

You should reframe the question cuz I'll bet there's expertise on here about how to research strangers' financial info. If the truck she was driving was a "new dodge crew cab", it's 98% certain it was insured.
Also (probably depends somewhat on the state but) typically insurance covers the insured individual and any other random driver of said vehicle EXCEPT somebody living at the same address as the individual (unless specifically listed on the policy). Somebody will need to research the two(?) addresses.
Good luck!

Wut? Can you even get a policy in Montana that doesn't include uninsured/underinsured motorist protection? That's what you need to look at. You have no liability and therefore your liability won't kick down. This is precisely what UM/UIM is for.
Also, do you have homeowners/renters? The cars might be excluded, but you should definitely read the policy closely if you have one. You may be able to get around the unregistered/uninsured car somehow.
Finally, "stolen" my ass. Fucking liars. Ask the cops if they are going to charge her with stealing the truck. If not, sister's insurance should be on the hook -- and if she just drove it off the lot two days ago, like someone else mentioned, it almost certainly has coverage.

Yeah, your current auto policy will generally cover a new car purchase for a few days giving you a chance to notify of changes. Bullshit story on the theft unless police charge her.
