Spring Dog Stoke TR
My dog and his short legs only suit spring touring.
Heres our TR from today in Japan. No, its not Niseko (thanks Lee L.)
There are 3 Freedom Feet in a Socialist Meter.
Went out exploring some new terrain yesterday, buddy wanted more.
He sleeps next to my head in bed. We both got up at 5am after ignoring the alarm for an hour. Set out for a 7km x 1000m walk-in followed by a couloir climb, which depended on conditions. North would have been good->great, but we went for a south 800m straight climb up this well known local chute. We stopped at the red mark as it was not the morning to push it further [if you climb it from the bottom, you want to be up and down before the lift-accessed crowd arrive at the top and start triggering their mess on you and your dog at around midday. I only thought of that half way up, and it takes a while to ski my mutt down something like that].
Climb.
Rest.
Down.
Doesn't look like much, but that is a rabbit track. His stride was huge. WTF is a rabbit doing at 2300m in a 40 degree chute, coming down!? He must have been hauling balls coming down there judging by the length of his leaps. Wish I'd seen it.
Lets call this the high point.
I had no desire to come home today.
None at all. But it is now raining on all this goodness.
Good spring skis.
Add any of your own dog touring stoke if you have some.Life is not lift served.

Awesome! I love skiing with the dog. I've never taken my Elkhound up a steep couloir. Looking forward to it this Spring!

So long as they don't trip over themselves as they run down the steeps it is fine. And avoid breakable crust.
Dogs can really tell they are on a mission, and it is a team effort. And they love moving over terrain an being in nature.Life is not lift served.

Love the skiing doggies, and you have some really fun looking terrain there!
you've probably seen all the pics i've posted of Jack over the years. A buddy of mine has a video he took with his gopro where he followed us down from Long's pass to Ingalls creek. I'll have to see if he still has it and post it here - we outran Jack about halfway down but up to that point it was fun to see him just hauling balls to keep up with me.
Here's another from a really deep day last year:

^Wish I could tour powder with my dog. I need a powder dog.
Nateski: Lloyd. Though with that thing round his neck reckon Floyd is more fitting.
Well I never!
Klar: I still worry, and ski shorter pitches with him. He has not stopped snoring since we got back 20 hours ago. He still moves fine for his age (13 or 14). Running the exit road out: https://plus.google.com/photos/11158...OSks7aZwN25owELife is not lift served.
