Drilled through ski base repair question

Bought girlfriend new pow skis. Smooth. Drilled through ski base after duct tape stop failed. Not smooth.

There's still base there, but it was pushed out and punctured. Do I fill with epoxy and use a hammer to push the base back down? Or should I remove the damaged base and drip some ptex in there?

Bonehead move, but not a big deal if you seal it up sufficiently

so you learned a drill collar is > ductape

I would mount the binding, push the p-tex down, fill the depression with pure ptex (as opposed to a ptex candle) and razor off the excess

In my experience duct tape is better than a collar.

Unless she's taking Vonn's place on the women's team, I'd just clamp a flat bar over the base in that spot and fill the bottom of the hole with epoxy.

Ductape or collars can both slip, another way is buy a bottle of wine, drink the wine and save the cork, drill a hole top to bottom thru the cork, loosen the bit, leave only as much drill bit sticking out of the cork as you want depth of hole and tighten the drill chuck, even if the bit slipped in the chuck it will just drill a less deep hole ... pretty much fool proof

but you probably want to wait till you are sober to drill holes

Agree with poster above, it's a powder ski and hopefully you will get the chance to ruin the bases and edges even more soon.
    Epoxy to seal it up.

I'd do what splat said. Later, if they need a base grind, you can do the cut + weld.

And I agree that tape can be as good as a collar, but not duct tape. It's too flimsy. Plastic tape works best. The secret is getting the first wrap on uber-tight.

I like this method. Not the cork, just the drinking wine. Classier than the usual beer mount.

Going to heat the base with a hairdryer, put some epoxy in from the top, and push the base back down and clamp it. I'll probably screw the bindings in at the same time (other holes are already all drilled) and let that one screw cure in the epoxy for max waterproofing. Got some g-flex sitting around from the last time splat told me how to fix some skis - thanks for that tip, by the way. 14" underfoot delam repaired and good for 20+ days on your advice.

Someone stop me if necessary before I get all french on this.

Buy a counter sink bit and flip it over to make a stop.

Heat the base and hammer it flat.

Then extra epoxy in the hole to fill the void.

The ptex will flatten substantially if you heat it and hammer it.
Did this once when I forgot to put the riser plates in before driving the screws.

Edit: missed the part about the puncture. Still say heat it and hammer it. Then fill the remaining puncture with ptex. Then extra epoxy when you insert the screws.

You are always better flattening the factory ptex.

best thing to do might be to get a template and a patch and such.
Or you'll have to give your girlfriend to properly dispose of.
    No longer stuck.

I did this with a pair of skis a few years ago(with a bit collar that slipped).

Drill out the hole completely so its easy to drip stuff into. Apply epoxy and mount as you normally would, then turn the ski over, and drip epoxy into the hole till its level, or almost level with the base material. Then either ski it as is, drip some p-tex candle in there, or base weld it proper.

Mine has been fine for 2 seasons.
