Cheap Bright Chinese Lights for Everyone!

    Miniature American flags for others!

Looks like the magicshine lights have plummeted in price. $27 for a "1000 lumen" light.

    Check it out!

Damn that's cheap. Anyone ever use one of these? It's hard to pass up for a second light I just don't want to buy one that will set the house on fire....

As far as I can tell its the same as the MagicShine my buddy has been using for about a year with no issues. I have 2 on order I will report back when the fire trucks show up.

You're not going to get a real 1000 lumens of output from that T-6, but as long as you know that going in, it's still about the best deal going. I bought one a few months ago for ~$38 and have been perfectly happy. Note that it doesn't come with a helmet mount, and that's not very floody for a bar-mount light. But there are $5 lenses you could buy to fix that.

They did a real life lumen test on mtbr or PB a few weeks ago. I think the MagicShines put out around 600 lumens.
    Still pretty good for $30.

Kinda makes me feel stupid for building mine.

Building your own rocks. Even if it puts out 100 lumens. That's still cool as shit.

Edit for clarity: In this context, shit = very cool. Not in all contexts, however. Booya!

    Supposed to be 1100 lumen.

an FYI - make sure to beef up the connections once you get the light. The lines tear out pretty easily.

As stated in the other threads that discuss this, what you are NOT getting with the sub $40 lights is a good battery, IMO.

Good to know. Maybe I should get an ammo can for charging the batteries.

has anyone thought about making/buying a better battery pack to replace the possible exploding one?

FWIW, I have a couple of these. They are bright as hell.

As with anything I buy from China like that, I expect that they are funky. I don't charge them unattended or overnight... don't know if that is really the risky part of it all, but I assume so.

Here is a link to the place I've bought a couple from:

You just need to find out what voltage is required.

I bought a replacement pack for an old Magicshine from Jim at action-led-lights.com and was quite pleased. He's got a deservedly good reputation.

I use the Magicshine cables for my lights and have always gotten great service from Action-LED.

I bought a Magicshine a few months ago from Geomangear. I guess they recently went out of business. These are even cheaper. I think the additional price of the geomangear is the supposedly better battery. But for $27 its worth buying to try out as a second Light. I'll try and do a little review comparison of the two when the new one arrives.

I've picked up one of these this winter to complement my 3+ year old magic shine. With a refracting light in one unit on the bars, and the other on the helmet, you get a pretty ridiculous light setup.

The waterproofing on the batteries is a real issue though. insufficient waterproofing killed the first battery on my magic shine. This winter I picked up a tub of plasti-dip for around $20 and sealed both my batteries with that - they still fit in the pouch, and it's nice to know they're properly waterproof when you ride in a rainforest.
It might seem expensive after only paying $30 for the light; but the total cost for two lights, a wide angle lens & the sealant was still <$100.
