Atomic Tracker 16 snapped in half...

Did a quick search and didnt find anything so...

Went out 'touring' last night. I only put quotes around it because we didnt make it out of the parking lot.

All geared up and ready to go, my buddy steps into his '>10 days on them' Tracker 16's, takes three steps and the binding snapped in half just after the toe piece. Never seen anything like it. Anyone else have heard anything similar?

    Pictures or it didn't happen
I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

Wait.. are you saying the first generation of a new product is having some durability issues?

Durability? I think that would imply that there was more than about 100 days on there. These things were practically brand new. This is more like defective.

    Assume you mean <10 days?

Looks pretty fucking bad though! Not had any impacts (shit rolling around them in the car, maybe)?

Damn, that sheered right off. That is the first time I've seen that and I haven't seen to many of them come back for warranty.

No complaints on my Maker F12's this year

The Atomic Tracker is a re-branded Salomon Guardian, right? Identical binding besides color and branding?

Yes, the Atomic Tracker is the exact same binder as the Salomon Guardian. Just the paint and company logos...

1st year product buyer = product tester

Warranty should cover that no questions asked. Hopefully he didn't buy from that spanish website.

Nah, He'll get them warrantied, just kind of crazy to see that in the first place.

Another touring binding vulnerable to catastrophic failure via a knee fall?

I have seen this exact issue on other people's first uses as well. It's caused by something, usually snow but maybe not in this case, getting wedged under the toe and levering the thing in half when the user inevitably tries to push through the obstruction. Really the only major structural flaw I've seen in the binding and something Salomon/Atomic should really be warning people about.

Either that or your buddy has a horribly, horribly defective binding and is very lucky not to have made it out of the parking lot.

I'd just be glad he wasn't skiing when that happened. Wonder what caused it...

You'd think, hope, that just maybe, all their pro skier gear testers might have identified this problem when testing the binding over 100's of miles of backcountry ski touring in a range of conditions.
