Heh, a buddy did this some years ago near the Creston (Porthill, ID). Stayed at the bar too late and missed the border closing. Didn't feel like driving around to the 24hr Kingsgate crossing. While making the dash across some farmer's field (while still south of the 49th), someone opened fire on the truck. The bullet holes in the canopy gave the impression that they were not warning shots. Safe to say buddy never missed the border closing again.

Forget trying to sweet talk your way over the border. Just drive up to the Canada Customs window slowly, and then floor it and take off into Canada. No one is going to bother chasing you over some bogus DUIs back in your own country.
P.S. Please post a TR o how it went.

Canadians appreciate beer and hockey - so do it really drunk and shout GO LEAFS...they'll understand...you may want to prepare yourself for a cavity search and the inevitable socialist propaganda programming which will leave emotional scars that will remain long after the memory of the probing has faded...

I tried to go to Whistler once, had a job under the table all lined up with one of the shops from a road trip there the year before...
You may have better luck than I had, go as a tourist in the middle of a season and only bring what a tourist would have for a short trip.
I tried to cross the boarder in October with four pairs, two pair of boots, and a wax/tune kit. I had a bunch of clothes, a tv, and even a few pieces of cook wear, did not think that through very well...
The guy at the boarded saw my out of state MN plates and asked me a few questions I was not prepared to answer. I was just a young rookie back then.
-Are you currently employed?
-What do you do for a living?
-What is your reason for entering Canada?
-How much money do you have in currency?
-How long do you plan to stay in Canada?
-(paraphrasing now) WTF is all that stuff in your car if you are just a tourist ahe, and do you not know the lifts don't run in October you stupid American?
I answered all their questions truthfully, I told them I was just moving to Bellingham but had yet to move into a place and wanted to go up to Whistler for the weekend until my apartment open up in Bellingham.
They removed everything from my car and set it on the ground.
The officer asked me to follow him into a room which was filled with a few mounties and guys in suites.
They then interviewed me and asked me questions like:
-You do understand Canada is not part of the United States, right?
-You do understand you can't just drive into a foreign country and look for work, right?
-...etc.
They then told me if I signed a piece of paper saying I was not knowingly attempting to illegally immigrate into Canada that they would not throw me into jail and I could drive thru the left turn area and return to America.
I did that and started driving south to Mammoth Lakes CA, but only made it as far as Bend Oregon before a found a job in a ski shop. Could not believe how big the Three Sisters were the first time I saw them from Pilot Butte. Also it was not raining all day and night in the high desert terrain around Bend...
I later moved to Bellingham WA after working in Vail and Mammoth, I worked in a local ski shop there and crossed the boarder thirty+ times over two ski season driving up to Whistler and never once did they not just wave me through when they saw all my ski gear in the car. Made a few stops at the Cambie Hostel on my way up to Whistler most times. loved Vancouver and Whistler they are both great places, have fun.
Good luck.Last edited by jwolter7; 01-21-2013 at 04:39 PM.
