Phelps got a bunch of flack over that at the last Olympics, but a number of high level athletes seem to be buying in. Maybe there's a placebo affect, and if so, hey, whatever works.

Ski technology is akin to cupping?
"fuck off you asshat gaper shit for brains fucktard wanker." - Jesus Christ
"She was tossing her bean salad with the vigor of a Drunken Pop princess so I walked out of the corner and said.... "need a hand?"" - Odin
"everybody's got their hooks into you, fuck em....forge on motherfuckers, drag all those bitches across the goal line with you." - (not so) ill-advised strategy

No, I remember Phelps using CADS:

They were banned because they gave him an advantage pushing off the wall.

yeah I was gonna say that too... J might of been lost in translation there.

I watched the replay last night and there were a couple other girls on Rossis besides Tess that also had the dampener on them as well. Interestingly, one of the atomics (G9?) they handed to the podium looked to have a very similar device on it as well...

They also have black velcro straps dangling off the backs of their boots to stiffen the flex.
These are just booster straps, everyone wears them, but bode was really the first to use the booster. I think they guy who did the booster, also did the Flo, back in the day. Nobis used those during his pro racing career, and maybe on some wc starts as well. An oil filled bag with bb's inside, to dappen the front of the skis.

FKNA, great info. I saw that during the race and had no idea what was going on there. Obviously helping. Thanks for sharing.

Ha, damnit, there was another post before mine that got deleted. I guess I should have quoted it. Anyway, she was doing the cupping thing and posted a photo on instagram, which has also been deleted (probably because whenever an athlete posts anything about it a bunch of people freak out).

That is the QUALIFIER SL, generally the top ~60 are pre-qualified, but they have a run off SL to allow I think another 15-30 athletes in to the back of the race. Take a look at where those skiers are from.

    Actual womens SL is tomorrow.

I caught that, so I deleted my post.

OK, will Shiffrin win the Championship Slalom?

Who was doing the cupping thing? Shiffrin? Forgive my reading comprehension. Went back and read some posts but couldn't figure out who.

Also Goggia. Chick is killing it. If I could race I'd ski like her.

How are people watching the races? I found a youtube channel, SPORTS STARS, that uses the Eurosport feed with English commentators, plus Tina Maze. Amazing how much better the coverage of races is compared to the lousy NBC coverage. You really see how big the sport is in Europe, WC skiers are super stars.

I used the NBC Sports app until a week ago but it sucks to stay up all night when I want to ski the next day! Plus, if it's a race that is on NBC TV, that's what the app shows and the coverage sucks. Promo puff pieces and not anywhere near all the skiers shown. When NBC isn't airing it, then it's worth watching because they show all the racers with no commentary. I like the youtube sites I found because I can watch the races when I want. It's great to have a variety of options these days.

That second run this am was flawless
Rumors are that she has been having issues with her boot since last year. Looks like they are totally dialed now

And now add a combined podium top to her resume.
