    Master of my rocker

    So...

Matt from ullr skis was kind enough to build me a pair of skis to my specs. He did, but the rocker came out way too shallow. Anyone have any strategies that I could use to change the rocker? Blow torch? Weight on the tips over a pair of 2 x 4s? I skied them today at Stevens. Fun, but a lot of work. I think it would be better with more tail rocker and a longer and taller tip rocker.

    Someone help the chicken.

    Long thread here: http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/s...er-in-my-Sumos.

Short story: If they've got metal in them, you may be able to increase the rocker.

If they are only a fiberglass laminate, the chances of you increasing that rocker on your own somehow is minimal without damaging the ski. If it is a metal laminate, maybe you can bend them into shape a little.

This is my attempt. Layup is carbon/fiberglass. I'll leave it for a couple days and see if I've had any effect. Thanks for the references.

^^^ hmm, never tried it myself.

interested to see the "after" picture with the other ski.

fingers crossed on the carbon fiberglass build taking additional rockering.

If you were a 2001 junior ultimate champ you should be able to handle the ski just fine.

I may be nuts but seems to me the chances of you successfully doing that to both skis and match then seem about like winning the lottery.

Turns out ultimate and skiing are separate skills. Who might you be, oftpiste?

Also, watch me. I put tape on the skis to mark the correct length on each. Should be fool-proof.

good luck, I'd say it depends on the resin used - thermoset or thermoplastic...

Shouldn't he build you a new pair of skis, assuming you had asked for a specific amount of rocker and you got less?

If you paid him for the skis, he should have done them as your wanted / you should have said upfront that it didn't look right.

If you kept your mouth closed and skied them, it may be too late.

With that said, if you got the skis for free, I suppose Ullr is void of liability in the bro-code world.

Are thermoplastics used for ski building?

The short answer is that there is no way to change the rocker on your skis, you could keep them in that flex position for 5 years and it wouldn't change

Am I the only one who realizes that he basically bought 333 ski's and is not happy with them. I mean....they're plywood.

So, I'm not upset at Ullr. I've maintained dialogue the entire time with Matt. I'm not looking for retribution, and I didn't start this thread to bitch about custom skis gone wrong. He's been really great about it, and after trying this rockering and a remount, we will tweak the design and try again.

Also, the ski under the clamp IS more rockered this morning. I'm moving the wood block closer to the clamp, and I'll leave it for another 12 hours. 24 hours of clamp per tip and see what sort of results I get. I'll post the before/after photos later this week.

    Phiber,

I also realize that that's what happened. Does that count?
