2012/13 Inland PNW thread
Ok, as promised.
To get it started:
Sherman Pass, 12/2
about 4" over a semi-supportive crust at the highway level, to 8+" up higher with no feeling of the crust
easily skin and skiable from highway on up
had several whoomping and cracks between 5800-6200' but nothing higher up
about 105 cm depth around 6700
solo = no action shots, just scenery
now get after it and post the goods so we can all ski a lot of powder

mt spokane looked terrible today. very low snow, with a crust and low clouds we opted to not ski.

Let us know how it goes.
Anyone competent with mounting swap plates?

Rain last night really did some damage. This is from 49 this morning. Hopefully it starts dumping white stuff soon!

I rode my mountain bike around Sherman Pass late this summer and wondered what it would look like in winter. Thanks for posting!

rain crust 2/3s of the way up the northside of sherman pass. nice skiing on the the top third of the slope, crusty below.
forgot my altimeter but found a weak layer 10-12" down right around where the rain crust started affecting the skiing, pit results ECT 15 Q3, no other instabilities noted.
about 36" of snow in pit. upwards of 50" in other areas observed.
give me a holler if you want to ski saturday. looking to get out early and be back in spokane by the afternoon

Triples turning tomorrow at Schweitzer. We'll see if it's snowed enough to repair the rain damage.

Inbound avi btwn Headwall and Stiles, at least 1 partial burial. More to follow.

3 people buired in headwall. All OK so far. Nasty ice layer.

One (at least) of those buried is a buddy of mine. He's okay but is feeling pretty beat up. Details are sketchy but he triggered it and was carried about 75 yards and partially buried. Sounded like at least one other person got caught in it but not as buried as my friend. Then people coming to help dig out my buddy were wiping out on the ice with one guy sliding into a tree. From what I understand, no serious injuries.
Snow was 10" of new fluff over the rain layer. As one friend described it, the whole mountain is a blue ice block with 10" of fluff over the top. I'm heading up tonight so will get to check it out tomorrow. Be careful, especially if you're thinking back country; really sketchy right now.

Yea crazy snow conditions this morning. Really nice fluffy powder over bullet proof ice. The people who were pointin it had better luck those looking for deep turns.
