Sounds like it will turn out to be an adventure, not a barely survive thing.

Best wishes to them, I bet a night on the mountain after a rain sucked a great deal

Hey its been 6 hours since they were beilived to be a half mile out.

    Any news?

Hopefully they were prepared and built a good snow cave to escape the wind. Mt. Rainier can get serious real fast.

It sounds like they either built or found a snow cave to take shelter in - (sounds like they were in contact with rescuers at one point). Hopefully they make it out okay. Big storm was predicted to roll in sunday morning and go through monday so it seems like it didn't sneak up on them.

    from the OP's linked article....

"The men were caught off guard by a storm that rolled in with whiteout and blizzard conditions."

Seriously? Off fucking guard? That storm wasn't really a surprise or anything.

It looks like they are okay, but they are lucky. The storm on Sunday had been forecasted since Wednesday. Not sure why they decided to go up.

Good to hear. Now we can mock them for sitting down as a bunch (or is it a gaggle?) in the middle of the good lines and scraping all the snow out of the chutes.

What is implied by the age statement...
[stereotype]Statistically, younger riders lack the experience that would effect their level of awareness and judgement.[/stereotype]

Of course, there are exceptions to the rule.

I made a lot of reckless decisions at 20. At that age you think you are immortal and take risks that someone older might think twice about. As ACH said there are exceptions to the rule. But to go up the most dangerous mountain in the lower 48 this time of year with a storm approaching that was forecast almost a week in advance is imo reckless. Notice that I did not even throw in that they were snowboarders

That's a little harsh. They didn't exactly do a Polish Traverse and end up amputees.

I heard somewhere during the week they were originally from Indiana? 20 & 21? College here in WA?

Just a combination of youthful exuberance and inexperience?

They're very lucky boys though. Was only this past September that the bodies of the (similar area) missing snow shoe-ers from January were found.

They obviously can't read or were too stoned to read. After all weed is legal there, right?!
