Camper Van Seat Belt Laws?
Hey Guys,
Just wondering if anyone knows the actual laws regarding driving a Camper Van with passengers in the back. Kind of have a dream of getting an old one for both summer and winter use but wondering if it is legal to have a couple people in the back on sideways facing seats for the trek? Or if it is only legal to have the two up front in the captains chairs with belts? I have searched and read a couple forums and threads but can't find anything outside of UK information and wondering the laws for Canada and the States. Any help would be awesome and really appreciated

Varies from state to state, my van has a sideways facing couch with seat belts. I can't strap a infant car seat there, but otherwise I appear to be legal here in California.
Front Seat
According to the Everything-About-RVing website, most states require that both the driver and the front seat passenger of a motorhome buckle up when the vehicle is in motion. This motorhome seat belt law is in place to protect the safety of both the driver and front passenger in case of an accident.
Passengers in Living Compartment
Motorhome seat belt laws pertaining to passengers who are sitting in the living compartment of the motorhome vary from state to state. Some states, such as California, require these passengers to wear seat belts and others do not. Some states only require passengers to wear seat belts if the motorhome living compartment is equipped with them (which means earlier model motorhomes without seat belts do not require passengers to wear them).
Children's Seat Belt Laws
In all 50 states, infants and children are required to be secured in a child safety seat. This law includes motorhome vehicles. Seat belts are in place to save lives in the event of an accident so they should be worn while in any moving vehicle. Children, who are especially vulnerable to injury, should always be buckled up in a motorhome.

There are some really good RV forums out there. Might be more useful posting this question is one of those than the main ski forum here.
