Voting MPC#93 October (voting ends monday 10:30AM EST)

Thank all. I had a bunch I had to choose from. Some I actually liked just as much for other reasons but ultimately these were the ones that spoke October to me the most.

People should learn endurance; they should learn to endure the discomforts of heat and cold, hunger and thirst; they should learn to be patient when receiving abuse and scorn; for it is the practice of endurance that quenches the fire of worldly passions which is burning up their bodies.

Meh... does it have the charred remains of a sacrificial ski in a flaming hollow log? no

    100 plus maggots? no

    Two handbuilt ski chairs? no

    Ice luge? no

(Otherwise, I agree... great pic, but not VT-F quality.)

    Thanks for the shout-out Eldo.

Mine definitely doesn't have an ice luge in it.

I had to go for single's shot. It goes beyond the leaf-peepin' shots but obviously feels very fall

I like Single's shot the best. Eldo has a great shot but it doesn't speak to me about the subject quite as much. The Singles soundtrack is also better than Reality Bites, and a lot of people get those two confused. Vote for Single!

Contest closed an hour early, congrats Eldo. Are you using the new Sony RX-100?

Must be due to the time change. I said it should last 4 days and since I forgot about the time change 9:30 was technically 4 days.

    Congrats eldo.

Okay, thanks, System, will put up a new challenge later today.

BD, no, not the RX100, another compact camera that's been out a bit longer. Planning to do a post on it, maybe in the next few days.

Is it just me or is the horizon in Eldos pic tilted slightly ccw?

I don't consider an oddly shaped pond/lake that definitely gets further away to the right and closer to the left in z space as a horizon line. There really isn't one in his picture, IMHO. I just pulled it down and brought it into photoshop. If I was to "straighten" it at all I would use the fallen logs behind the water edge as a judge of horizon and those are dead nuts horizontal. Of course, that's only my $.02

The trees, collectively, make up a reasonable horizon indicator. Sure, many trees can be tilted, but the forest as a group should be a reliable touchstone, in this case it seems to be anyway.

Great shot Eldo, stoked for the next topic...

    Good way of explaining it.

Tuckerman, I wasn't shooting directly across the lake, so the shoreline receding into the distance will not be level. You could theoretically correct for that by tilting the camera to level the shoreline, but then you angle the trees and create a different sort of visual oddity.
