Advice needed on Vail condos for 1st timer..

Ok Ok I'll admit, I'm an east coast boarder, never been out west....

With the big us open move to Vail, we're thinking of going so the kids can continue their fun competing in the junior jam....my daughter was the youngest boarder at 4 years old to slide the pipe in 2012 & did pretty OK, for a 4 year old ( not last! )

Holy sh!T!! The prices are crazy! From what we did find that was reasonable, we're looking at @ $2000 for a week.

Can anyone let me know about these condo complexes?

    The Lions Mane II condo

    Fallridge at Vail

we're flying into Denver & renting a car. From what a few people have told us the shuttle bus system throughout the town is amazing & we'd almost never have to use the rental car unless going to the grocery store. Many thanks for any advice you can think of!

Look into Minturn... or better yet, I bet you can get some sick deals in Leadville.

Not sure these replies regarding staying further away are considering the challenges of having kids. I'm not in real estate and haven't had to book a room in town since I live here, but $300 a night sounds like the market price for a Condo in Vail during ski season. The free bus is Great. Keep checking VRBO and other condo rental websites, but it sounds like your doing this right. I'd pay a lot more for lodging to be able to take a free bus. The Leadville suggestion is extreme, the hour drive from Leadville to Vail sucks and can be really nasty in a white out. You can either drive 15 minutes or more from Minturn from to Vail, find free parking way out, and then take the bus or pay $20+ for parking, so with kids you aren't going to save enough make it worth all the loss of time and convenience of being on the Vail bus route. If you have kids old enough to ride the bus alone (the Vail bus system is about as safe from crime as public transport gets), that's worth a lot. I'm not familiar with those specific condo buildings, but I don't think you could go wrong with anything in the "town of Vail". I'd worry most about how close to the bus stop the building is, there's not really any bad or crime ridden part of Vail to avoid.

Roost or the Holiday Inn Avon can be pretty affordable but not fancy.

The Vail Holiday Inn is pretty reasonable usually, close to the grocery, some restaurants, and gear rental/shopping if you need it. There's a kick ass restaurant in the HI too. They also have a free shuttle that will take you to the slopes or village.

I'd guess that Sun Vail condos might be a less expensive option than the stuff in the village. They are across the highway, but have a walking bridge (or shuttle) for convenience. Last time I was out there, I rented a condo at Sun Vail, and rented a ski locker at one of the shops in Lionshead so the wife & I didn't have to drag our skis and poles all the way back to the condo.

    YMMV

Check @ vail cascade. usually pretty pricey, but its a big hotel, and they run sales up to 40% off to try and fill it up

Might be a stupid question but have you checked VRBO for EV or WV or Edwards options?
