Would it be cool if I skied without poles?
I'm not a skier - yet (snowboarder). I'm gonna give it a go this year but I've always kinda thought that the poles looked a bit messy/clumsy.
How often do you really use your poles when you're skiing?

Have fun traversing. And poles are only clumsy if you suck.

You would look like a complete gaper if you skied without poles.
BUT
If you skied with little 18" to 24" poles you would be steezy as fuck. I suggest going that route."Zee damn fat skis are ruining zee piste !" -Oscar Schevlin

It's cool... go for it.
OR
Just cut your poles in half if you must carry them.

if you're going from snowboarding to skiing, it's a smoother transition if you go monoski first before seeking enlightenment through the way of the two-plank.

Don't forget whacking poles together before launching--I forget how many GNAR points for that.

No pole skiing is very popular amongst texans, as they do not go well with snowblades.

Skiing without poles is just like getting a blow job from a dude. It seems great until you look down and realize your GAY.
I'm cool with this, as long as you Kirkwood Bro Brah's stay away from Heavenly when 88 closes- TahoeBc

hi Ry!
I use poles and have been criticized here and over on Telemarktips for what I call the DPP or double pole plant. When things get steep on a black diamond run I'll plant both poles to check my speed and get my body back square to the fall line knees bent and transition with my lead change into my next turn. I use longer poles more Nordic style so my hands are carried higher in the air (kind of like Billy Kidd school or skiing). Don't listen to these fools here or on TTips lots of them don't ski and just sit in an office all day. Enjoy the transition to skiing you my find that the telemark turn will give you more of that surfy toeside turn that you had with your snowboard.
I'm the best DPP in the West.

Are you for real? Kids get poles as soon as they have enough coordination to not impale themselves on them. Pro's do all kinds of exercises to fine tune technique. Boarder dude should get a lesson, and a proper one at that. One from someone who's not Australian and can actually teach you how to use poles, and what they're for. (hint: it's not JUST for lift line shenanigans!)
