You're fine. Tahoe isn't going to fill up and pull a 1997 (to use a technical term) over the dam. The only really significant input you have is bear creek out of alpine.
I just drove that stretch a few hours ago and it's downright pleasant compared to everything further down.

It's basically just upstream of truckee and below that will be an issue..........and vista is always the first issue.
Yeah - right at the Alpine access road (so upstream of Squaw Creek). Glad to hear is really isn't a trouble spot as the two gauges above and below me are so far away on the river, so tough to tell. Like I said, the only thing that is an issue is the river is the narrowest right there behind our place (so any flooding is just more of an issue as the water is moving much faster there), but hopefully a non-issue.

Sorry to hear that everyone in Reno/Sparkes is really going to get hit hard, and anyone downstream. Would offer some assistance if I wasn't in SF right now.

Woo, you're a hydrologist? Any chance your office is looking to hire someone with GIS skills?

Vibes to you guys out in Tahoe, hopefully there isn't too much flooding.

I'm not as hydrologist, nor do I play one on TV, nor did I sleep in a holiday inn express last night. But doesn't this 24 hour lull help alot? (although it doesn't seem to be lulling much)
It just doesn't seem like this sequence of storms should be able to cause such big flooding given the available storage, the coldness of today's storm, and the length in between impulses.

Splat is about 2.5 miles upstream of vista (assuming vista is vista blvd).

Anybody else in Tahoe lose power? Incline is out and SLT looks pretty dark across the lake.

Edit: Kings Beach has power and thus my dinner.

Is there any chance that the Alpine access road gets washed out / flooded at the bottom? It seems pretty elevated but I guess I've never really looked that closely. If I'm going to be stuck up there Sunday morning... I might as well make sure to bring my skins, etc.

I'm at 6500', on the hillside, so no risk of flooding. But with NOAA reporting 4.5" of rain in Alpine over 24 hours, I'm hoping my garage isn't filled with mud when I make it up there.

But TahoeJ: I really can't imagine where you'd skin on Sunday that might be even close to safe. SAC is rating avy danger as high as of this morning, and Sunday morning, the deluge should just be turning back to snow. Don't do something stupid risky. We have the whole rest of the season ahead of us.

I'm planning to head to Truckee on Sunday. Dad - I'll check on the house - can sandbag if needed.

Thinking about a day trip up to squaw tomorrow. Can't find anything helpful on tomorrow's forecast to help me decide if I should come up to ski the upper mountain or not. Any of you locals have any idea what Sat is going to be like weather wise on the upper mtn of squaw? Thanks.

YES! I COULD USE SOME HELP GUYS.
PM Gear is on North Edison Way on the first street on the left after Rock Blvd when heading east from 395. You pass the end of the airport, then go through Rock and it's a left turn about 2/3 of a mile down. We're in the last building on the left, far end from the road, #29, about 15 feet from the river.

I owe maggots skis, so instead of sandbagging or jacking up machines, I spent the day and night pressing and finishing. I need to do the same thing tomorrow and the flood is slated for Sunday noonish. I bought plastic today and need help sandbagging. We have piles of sand and bags right by the shop but, in order to get the skis dome that I have outstanding orders on, I sure would appreciate any help I could get tomorrow at 1 or 2 o'clock filling sandbags so I can keep pressing and finishing skis. Just walked in the door at home and had some pics of the river from my parking spot outside my door and a note on my roll-up door to the flood control authority but my computer won't read the camera chip.

Me n Snowbyrd are headed to Incline Lake Peak and planning on a long season n life. Practicing terrain management the same way one practices conscientious driving.

Afternoon, we are headed to do some good at PM Gear.

In 1998 the buildings at the bottom of the road were under water and the bridge was a dam with all the debris stuck under it. That was 8' or more of snow melting almost overnight.

Yeah, posted that late last night after a few beers and I realize it's not even an option. Even in my semi-drunken state I wasn't planning on anything close to steep.

Squaw is closed today. Wouldn't be surprised if it's the same tomorrow with all the wind.

It should be pretty good if you like 100+ mph winds and heavy rain.
