It isn't necessary to imagine the world ending in fire or ice. There are two other possibilities: one is paperwork, and the other is nostalgia.

Yup; there's no story in ski movies now; need some secret life of sleeping bags. Yup.
The weird things is that there are so many stories out there, so many people with such surprisingly angled and interesting lives. Just no one with the budget, balls and savvy to make one happen. Yet.

Greg is just another ski town alcoholic drug abuser who bottom'd out 20 years ago and for some reason thinks he has a chance at getting another 15 min. of fame.
I get to see this crap everyday. Some old guy who hasn't done anything but lines of coke and heavy drinking day after day try to act like he knows whats up. You ain't 23 anymore so give it up. Instead of focusing on making movies he just became a another washed up party guy. There a dime a dozen in a ski town.

Jezuz christ, did you read the interview? He went where the money is, which is commercials and a little hollywood. What, was he supposed to make Ahhs for the rest of his life? Besides, check out that suit. For an old alcoholic coke head, the man knows how to dress. Not like the present generation, dressing literally like clowns and trashing hotel rooms.

I personally don t think he has had a bad life... partying, skiing , living in other palces ,chasing his dreams making movies or commercials, what ever, he still lived his life his way.....good on him for that......
To many poeple comform to society......graduate HS, get a job or go to college, then buy house get married and have kids........great if thats the sort of thing your into and its not for everybody.....there is alot to be said about poeple who can survive on little money and live their dreams, what ever they maybe. good on stump and look forward to more of his work.......

I think the Interview was a fun read.
I've had the pleasure of meeting Greg a couple of times. He is very up beat and a fun guy to be around always willing to talk to people he really doesn't come off as arrogant or too good for you brah.
The way I look at it is so what he partied and he had fun, he got ski movies to go a different direction, he made some money, traveled and had lots of fun along the way.

This is it for me:

I could not agree more... Stumpy still is a visionary.
"I'm looking pretty good, don't you think?" - the other says "watching you ski is like watching a retarded monkey rollerblade on a gravel road"

Yes, there's lots of stories out there far beyond the bro-brah cliche scene that deserve telling. I'm not sure if it's "the market" for stories, or the people paid to spin the stories/take the pictures that are the reason the stories currently tend to cliched shit, nor do I care anymore.

Interesting perspective, to be sure. Seems like a pretty mature view of the industry as it has evolved away from "his" style. The fact that stump recognizes the progression (athleticism, cameras) of modern ski films while still vocalizing his vision and interest is cool. Not being able to enjoy skiing once it wasn't Whistler-Perfect is sad.

Gonna go check out Legend of Aahhs tonight in Gloucester, MA. Seems an unlikely place for the showing but closest to my house. 10 bucks well spent i figure.
I demoed the TECH TALK JONG! pro model this spring and their performance was unparalleled which is good because I ski in a wedge most of the time - bendtheski, 2011

Legend of Ahhh's will be playing at the Squaw Valley Institute on 11/2. It will be preceded by a round table discussion hosted by Robb Gaffney, with Greg and Scot Schmidt. Tickets are available at The Start Haus.

All I can say is I still watch Blizzard, Groove, and License religiously around this time of year and have for more than 20 years now. Meanwhile, the latest TGR and MSP flicks (cant remember the names) are collecting dust. Nothing against the new flicks, still enjoy them and I'm glad these guys are around making them, but the stump films are classics. They are more than a story, they all have a different feeling. Theyre not all the sickest lines in alaska, theres a lot of terrain that all of us have probbaly skied at one point or another. The narration pulls you in too. Maybe its just because Im from Maine..?
