You're mis-reading it. It says 0.5 inches right on the map.

i didnt make the map. i think the .5 is inches in precipitaion. remember in colorados dry climate, 1 inch of rain equals 9 inches of snow

Here's some insight, JONG:
1. Early snow is bad
2. A weather forecast 6 days out is like asking the schizophrenic homeless dude on 16th St what the winning lotto numbers are.
3. We can get dense snow, particularly early and late
4. That model doesn't match the other models... in other words, the sky is frequently blue.

This day last year wolf creek opened to a 3 foot storm. Then we had the worst winter in living memory. Early snow can be misleading...

I'll take 3ft of early snow followed by more. Its the 1ft that sits there for a month...

The trick to long range weather forecasting in CO is simple. Just look at what the weather channel predicts, then move the decimal point to the left until you feel sufficiently disappointed. Then cut it in half, divide by two and find the square root. Only then, will you be close to the actual amount of snowfall that may or may not fall on the mountains here. In other words, fuck off JONG, you're gonna jinx it.

ZOMG!!! SHIT JUST GOT REALZZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY
THURSDAY WILL BE DRY. THE NEXT STORM WILL BRING SHOWERS TO THE
MOUNTAINS BY FRIDAY MORNING. A MIXTURE OF RAIN AND SNOW SHOWERS
WILL BE LIKELY IN THE MOUNTAINS BY AFTERNOON...BECOMING ALL SNOW
SHOWERS BY LATE AFTERNOON CONTINUING THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT. THE
SHOWERS WILL DECREASE ON SATURDAY. SIGNIFICANT SNOW FALL AMOUNTS
ARE NOT EXPECTED. OVER THE PLAINS...THERE WILL BE A SLIGHT CHANCE
OF RAIN SHOWERS WITH THE STORM FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND NIGHT...HOWEVER
THE NORTHEAST CORNER WILL HAVE A BETTER CHANCE. THERE WILL BE A
SLIGHT CHANCE OF RAIN SHOWERS OVER THE NORTHEAST PLAINS ON
SATURDAY. ALL AREAS CAN EXPECT A SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS
WITH THE STORM FRIDAY AND FRIDAY EVENING. BY LATER SATURDAY... DRY
CONDITIONS WILL RETURN TO ALL AREAS. THIS SHOULD CONTINUE THROUGH
MONDAY. A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SNOW SHOWERS WILL RETURN TO THE
MOUNTAINS MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY.Wag more, bark less

i think you miscalculated here, because when you get to less than 1 but greater than 0, the square root function actually INCREASES the value of the number you're taking a square root of. see? that's clearly not what you were going for.
