to follow up on your Irish ancestry I have always felt that "Fighting Irish" was an offensive name. Irish have through the years been depicted as a rough, bruising, not afraid to get into a fight, and love to drink culture. If they can pull Resdskins why not disallow Notre Dame from trademarking the Fighting Irish? ( I am assuming it is trademarked, maybe not)

No, but part of that (I presume) is because the name has become so ingrained in my conscience that it doesn't affect me. But if I look at it objectively I don't see why it's any different than nigger. I don't know if you can put some kind of grade on how offensive a term is.

When was the last time you heard someone say Redskin in a derogatory manner? I don't think I have ever heard that for anything other than an NFL team.
