I think our quick loop that morning (Feb 27) was up B&M to the yurt for a quick photo op:
... then back on Porcupine and Sebosis. (Is it just me or does the latter trail name sound like some sort of horrible medical condition that I read about in my NSP OEC textbook?)
The snow was so perfect: fast, but with some softness, which I need for balancing while xc skate skiing with her on my back. (Conditions that are fast and *hard* get me nervous about committing to one ski.)
On the *uphills* on the way out there, even with my "training weight" I was still skiing at decent alpine downhill speed. The snow and grooming were that good!
Unfortunately she kept tossing off her hat and mittens, then insisting on getting off my back and poking around in the snow with my ski pole...Mo' skimo here: NE Rando Race Series

my buddy is an excellent groomer.
that looks world class, right there.
tracks look bomber fast!
and yeah, Sebosis, is not a pretty word.
can't wait, Grafton Ponds will start blowing their loop in soon.
they make a ton of snow at GP.
it's usually the best early season skiing around.crab in my shoe mouth

That x-c track looks so smooth and fast, I'm willing to bet, it's fiber optic.
JS, you're raising her right.... Mine is now trying out for the high school team this winter!Screw the net, Surf the backcountry!

Thanks for that info -- I didn't realize that Grafton Ponds uses its snowmaking to open early. (I had thought -- apparently mistakenly -- it was just to cover for desperate times in mid-winter.)
Somehow we still haven't been to GP. Prospect is usually where we xc ski first each season, although Notchview has surprisingly good snow cover for Western Mass. (Kind of a mini-Prospect almost, being at a base elevation over 2,000' -- and even on a Route 9, albeit MA not VT.)
Nice!
Meanwhile, only two more years until she can join the local BK team.
The older of her two little cousins in the next town over joined this past season.
Just noticed that she's the middle girl in their website's picture:
http://berkshiretrailsbk.com/registration/
I did my PSIA alpine certification continuing ed two yrs ago by getting nordic cert, so I'm looking forward to helping out with BK.
(My niece's mother raced nordic for Dartmouth, and also taught at Weston Ski Track yrs ago, but she hasn't told anyone that yet b/c she doesn't want to be coerced into coaching...)
Wow, just realized that we're discussing nordic skiing on the TGR East Coast thread -- what's this place coming to?Mo' skimo here: NE Rando Race Series

well, now that many are seeing the waxless ultimate lightness of being, nordic will probably be much more accepted, in this TR anyway. skinny skis def make yer regular equipment seem like cheating. most will appreciate that aspect me thinks.
now if we could just get some bump skiing stoke going.............

C'mon now, take that to the Stoke only thread!
Killington had some pretty fun bumps over on Mouse Trap Sunday.
Powderqueen posted this over on NYSB. TR Here: http://forum.nyskiblog.com/Killingto...td4021147.html

Lot's of stuff to catch up on - best of all the ECRC crew skiing.
Very nice to see that the 12-13 season is on the way.
Until some key stuff arrives I am in a holding pattern.
Might do some more ice climbing at the end of the week.
Rog - nice day at the Rivah. Sorry I missed it but the kids and I had fun. Any updates for me?

The W. Ma BKL group is great. Nice and laid back (unlike the E. Ma club). Notchview has hosted 2 of the best Festivals in the last few years. Great place and great vibe (and apparently a nice snow cloud).

Since rog is still blogging, I figure I can share some kiddie stoke.
Little dude takes after daddy - hugging new skis:
"Daddy, I want to jump off big rocks at Magic with my new skis this winter"
And so it begins.... Should be a really, really fun winter.

^^^ I don't always dig on kid stoke, but when I do it's definitely because some little maggot shows me exactly why skiing is the greatest thing ever invented.

It's more than a week out, but so heard I've heard 2 local TV weather idiots talk about a possible Thanksgiving N'oreaster.

. After some buzzed facebooking I went ahead and mounted up a mini AT setup for the mini. In order to finish out the setup I need an old pair of skins that can be cut down to 117cm and need to locate an old stomp pad for a pair of diamirs or a set of brakes from a freeride
And before Jonathan S starts shaking his head about frame bindings. I HAVE a pair of dynafit TLT speeds with minis name on them I just can't find a dynafit compatible boot in 21.5. Sigh next year though :-)For sure, you have to be lost to find a place that can't be found, elseways everyone would know where it was

Saw this morning the aurora was visible last night. That is an awesome picture. they should shop out the plane though.
Tried this stout last night, it was ok, the one I had recently at the Taco was draft and sublime, I'll ask them what it was.
Back to snow again this morning
No banjo today, how about guitar?
