the houses on either side of me on donner lake rent through this site, which covers the north shore/truckee area:
http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals...re/kings-beach
In truckee houses on the north side of donner lake, on donner pass road are good because the road gets plowed pretty quickly. In big storms houses in tahoe donner, and the west and south shores of donner lake can occasionally get snowed in for a day or longer.

Thanks, goat, but those are priced by the night and they're looking for a six month lease.

I didn't look at the fine print--I imagine a lot of them do ski leases--both houses on either side of me do. I'll PM you with contact info for both. Donner Lake Realty handles most of the short term and seasonal rentals for Donner Lake. Don't know about the rest of Truckee.

Thanks, goat. As I said in my pm, they're looking for 2-6 bedrooms and price is not the big issue. They like it nice.

Craigslist usually has a number of ski lease listings for around Tahoe.

If you are willing to go through VRBO one by one and e-mail each owner about a seasonal rental, you may get about 20% or more biting back. That's how I found a place in Colorado for four months. It was post xmas, though (Jan-April).
Some people prefer the lack of turnover.
It isn't necessary to imagine the world ending in fire or ice. There are two other possibilities: one is paperwork, and the other is nostalgia.

Looks like there's a plethora of nice places in Tahoe Donner. I told them to get a big beefy 4x4 and look there. I ain't never seen an unplowed road on a downhill slope that can't be waded through. well.....maybe.

Hummm,
1. Friends of Splats.
2. Six months of skiing.
3. Nice place to stay.
4. Possibly a new 4X4
Sounds like the GSA will be in Tahoe this winter.
Should I make some reservations?

6 months is a long term rental... don't let them get conned into a "ski lease"
there are so many long term rentals available its silly... a friend just got a 3/2/2 in truckee for 1250/mo
places in squaw are less available
I saw 3-4 bed condos in alpine for 1200-1400

Splat, have them get in touch with me. I've got a place with a couple of maggots and looking for a few more.

In any case, if you're ever really in this situation make sure you at least bargain in a couple of fluffers.
