MPC #90 (Where you live) Voting (ends September 20)

so here are the finalists of an imho nice MPC.
i picked the entries by powdork, splitter and buttahflake because i just really loved the pictures while the entries by kauris and bad dancer seem to fit the theme in a nice way. i liked all the other entries as well, of course, and im interested how the vote will turn out.

    powdork #1

    splitter #2

    buttahflake #1

    kauris #1

    bad dancer #2

I'd agree with the quality of the MPC. Obviously there can be some disagreement with what makes the final cut, but some of the avant-garde and unique interpretations and perspectives made it difficult for freak to really make a mistake.

I liked the range of photos that all seemed to fit the MPC in some regard, better than many other MPC's entries that require a qualifying statement upon posting.

Nice range of entries... You have almost all the elements: fire, air, earth, (life & death?), but no water...

All quality shots, but I'm partial to New England.

    always a bridesmaid dammit.

nice shot splitter. living around these parts seeing that shot instantly makes me think 'Reno'.

and BigDaddy, my shot has water. go vote for it now. ;-)

PD, that is a gorgeous shot. (Having tried for years to get a decent fireworks shot, I tip my hat to you!)

^^i've gotten some decent ones in the past. Having a remote this time around makes a huge difference and meant i was able to enjoy the show much more.

At the risk of raising the ire of some...

    Strong entries all around.

I love splitter's shot -- technically and artistically it is great. But I don't get a good feel of "where he lives", mainly because I cannot see any landscape -- the context is missing for me -- it could be anywhere in the world. Same thing with powdork's -- very good shot but could be Anytown USA.

buttahflake's shot gives me more of a sense of the place.

I'm a sucker for urban shots, so bad dancer's picture is also drawing my eye.

i agree somewhat. For splitter's and mine you would have to have some knowledge of the area. I see balloons like that and I immediately think 'Reno Balloon Races'. It immediately pops into my head. With mine (not to defend it), there are no other cities anywhere that I am aware of that have fireworks on Labor Day. But in the grand scheme very few people outside our region know either of those tidbits.
To me, buttahflake's gives a sense of place, but what place that is I have no idea.

See I didn't know that context -- it makes more sense now.

You could argue that buttahflake's shot could also be Anytown USA.

I have to say, this is one of the hardest MPC's for me to vote in.

im kinda with you there, but then i just liked the shots by powdork and splitter way too much to not include them, even if they did not scream there location at me, like some others. in that way i really liked kauris' picture. it definitely tells me that its taken in munich around the time of the octoberfest, without any explanation. the shot by bad dancer really fits the theme i think, i really liked his first entry as well, but decided to pick the second one because of the nice idea of combinig the glowing sign with the train/bus or whatever it is.
buttahflakes picture is one which really caught my eye, even though its kinda unobtrusive. nice combination of colors and the frame somehow really fits the picture.
that said, it was hard to pick the final 5. i would really have liked to include some more shots...

With much thanks to Freak for his pick. I am always honored to be included, however I am a tad confused by your final 5. The theme was "where you live". Although PD and Splitter have some fine shots, I did not make any connection to the theme. Having to "set-up" the shot with an explanation of why it fits the theme, completely negates the whole idea of a theme for me. Just my opinion. Don't get me wrong, they are all good shots. If Kauris did not submit the other shot, I would have had no idea where that portrait was taken.
Buttaflake, your shot killed it for me. Too bad I can't vote. It just screams "I live next to this old crusty dude who has no money to fix up his dream car."
For me, I tried to include a hint of my location, albeit, # 2 was a kind of in your face "East Van." I really should have had a tripod. I think it would have made for a technically better shot. #3 even had the paper boxes that had reference to my location.

    Great MPC nonetheless.

    ^whoa, thanks dude.
    mine was 'hand held' also.
on a bike ride with an S100 in my jersey pocket.
had to try to control my breathing while sweating my balls off.
i like your entry a lot. night shots are still a mystery to me.
the 'east van' sign is cool.

    thanks for the nod Freak.

Some people think its improper to vote if they are a finalist. I don't. I always vote for the one I think is the best and so far it's never been my own even though I was in it.

I like Splitter's shot the best. As long as it somewhat fits the theme I think it comes down to the best shot. Just my $.02.

Cool topic this time for sure. Lots of great shots all around.

I don't want to end this prematurely, but I'm stoked to concede to buttahflake's shot if it means we get a new MPC up and running
