    Knee surgery

So i'm looking at the prospect of partial knee replacement surgery of the lateral compartment, and i'm thrilled. I'm 45 and my knee has given up the ghost so that's my best option. Wondering if anyone on here has had this surgery, is close to my age range and what their experience has been. Wondering if skiing on it is still an option. If you have any feedback on this, i'm all ears. Cheers. Huzie

Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

I've been in the same situation with my right knee for years. Then more recently my left hip has also degenerated to bone on bone with severe OA and DJD.
Lot's of guys in Aspen are still rippin after having their hips done. Knee's too, but it's a more complicated joint and I haven't investigated it as much.
Do your homework on which procedure you want and then find a surgeon that's done a lot of them?

If you give stem cells a try, post your results? I checked out the Regenerex guy in Chicago. He wanted $2-7K and insurance won't cover it?

Lateral uni's aren't very common. They are technically more challenging to do than a medial uni. If you've exhausted your conservative options it may be a reasonable option. Make sure your surgeon has a lot of experience with this procedure and you also have to realize that if he (she) sees signs of wear elsewhere in your knee, they'll have to do the whole thing.

To answer your original question, you should be able to ski after either procedure. Shredding the bumps would not be in your best interest, but you should be able to do most of what you want.
