Looking at a new lid - POC Trabec or 661 Recon?
Considering a new lid and I'm looking at either POC's Trabec or 661's Recon. What say the masses?

The POC's seem like they are destined to be the Giro G10 MX of the bike world. Just sayin...

Trabec Race MIPS, maximum protection you can get without going FF.

MIPS makes a helmet safer. Period. If the whole point of wearing a helmet is to protect your noggin, you might as well protect it as well as possible. http://www.mipshelmet.com

I'm sure the POC is great, as is most everything they make, just want to throw out that I love my 661, super light, comfy, airy.

Own the MIPS Trabec, let me know if you have any questions. Yes it is super light (the nylon straps are probably the heaviest part) and yes the helmet is adjustable.

Dig my MIPS Trabec and pray I'll never have to use it. Glad to have the extra protection if I do though...

I have both helmets, both will do the job but the POC feels and looks like it's much higher quality. It also fits me a little better but that's personal preference.

Has anybody A-B'ed the MIPS vs. the Race?

big fan of POC stuff for many years now, but the trabec fit on my fairly normal head was poor. i.e. tried different sizes, and the M/L sat strangely high (poor temple protection) while the XL/xxl protected more of my head but was too large in circumference.
since giro / fox etc always fit me well, as does the cortex DH helmet (best fitting DH helmet i've ever owned), I'm not sure what's going on w/ the trabec. YMMV and all that.

I've been putting off replacing my beat up old Xen, but this thread motivated me to look into the Trabec MIPS. Went ahead and scored one. I'll try to remember to post some impressions after some use.
TGR code + huckandroll = slightly less painful. Thanks to the new VA warehouse, I gotta pay tax now.Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

The helmet is in Utah, though.
(I don't actually know where it is)
I didn't mind in Utah, cause I could drive to the warehouse and pick my stuff up and try it on. It's too far for that to be feasible from here, but it's pretty cool that that region seems to be a new area of interest for the outdoor industry. We've looked at relocating to Roanoke a few times. Excellent mountain biking down there. Skiing, not so much.Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

I own both these helmets and don't have a bad thing to say about either one. I happen to like the way the POC fits my head, but the Recon fit fine as well.
I tend to use the POC more now b/c I personally think the helmet provides better head protection. I had a bad crash last year and really scared the shit out of myself. I know POC makes amazing protective gear when it comes to skiing, so I made a decision to get the Trabec Race and give it a shot.
They both look pretty cool on the head too, which is always important for the coolness factor.northern lights and southern comfort...

I had a the race for a year, now in the mips version....super comfy, love the full coverage, fits perfect for me. While the venting still isn't that great on really hot days, I still choose this helmet over my better ventilated fox flux pretty much 100% of the time because of the coverage/protection it offers my head. everything else out there just seems kind of too minimalist to me at this point after being in a trabec for a couple of seasons.

Got a month or so on the Trabec Race MIPS. I really like this helmet. Fit is excellent. This is the first helmet I've owned that has truly fit my egg-shaped head without any weird pressure points or gaps. The MIPS is pretty interesting. With it snug, it feels like wearing a head band, but the helmet can move around independent of the head wrap, which is a bit weird. There isn't and never will be a helmet available that doesn't make me look like a douche, so can't comment on the style aspect.
My only complaint is with the straps. The strap adjusters, where the front and back parts of the strap meet, don't lock into place. I generally carry and hang my helmets by the straps, so I'm constantly knocking these things out of adjustment.
This replaced a Fox Flux and older Giro Xen I was switching between. The POC is better in every way.Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

My Trabec is the first bike helmet that feels like I'm wearing it instead of it sitting on top of my head.

Yeah I've been on the MIPS this season and am loving it. just an all around comfortable helmet that's saved my noggin a couple times this season. I'll take the slightly warmer on really hot days in exchange for the great coverage and super comfy fit.
