"Arapahoe Basin Announces Proposed Master Development Plan Open House

Ski area invites community members to a conversation about its long-term plans

ARAPAHOE BASIN, Colo. – Arapahoe Basin Ski Area (A-Basin) will be hosting an Open House to share its vision for improvements and changes to the ski area over the next decade. The Open House will take place Wednesday, August 29, 2012, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Keystone Center in Keystone, Colo.

Join A-Basin Chief Operating Officer Alan Henceroth in a conversation about the concepts and ideas in A-Basin’s Proposed 2012 Master Development Plan. Projects under consideration include a zipline tour, a surface lift to access Montezuma Bowl, increased snowmaking reservoir storage, and lift-served skiing in The Beavers. U.S. Forest Service staff from the Dillon Ranger District will also be present to answer any questions.

The Keystone Center is located at 1628 Sts. John Road in Keystone, Colorado. "

A mutha fucking zip line? Gawd, every resort is going to try and get one of these. The only zip that would be cool is an Abasin to Keystone zip line.

I'm sure every hardcore local abasin douche will be crying about Beavers expansion, but perhaps having a-basin ski patrol in charge of the highest avi incident area in the country could be a good thing....of course it's abay patrol and nothing will open if it snows....hmmm

Talked about it once with them and the Fingers (or steep gullies or whatever they are called) would also become inbounds.

I also think that the lift proposal is someplace near where the current smoke-shack is now and somehow will be linked via catwalks back to the main basin area.

Regardless it just means that the sidecountry will just shift down the ridge a little bit.

Not sure what you're talking about, but if you read snowy torrents a couple of times, you'll see that area in there more than any other in North America.

Beavers is going to happen, with at least one death every other year in the gullys the forest service is going to close the gate or open it up to the ski area.

On a side note everyone could stop picking up people hitching on the pass without gear and this would help.

Be a dick/good guy and tell them no avi gear no ride! It does not fix it but helps

The deaths are mostly in the (witch's) fingers aka steep gullies. Until that death last season, there hadn't been one since 03 if memory serves.

If A-Basin gets them, they'll either be a bump field or a permanent closure. <FIXED>

Nobody is going to A-Basin for a lame-ass zipline.

^^ Is there any kind of map available that shows the proposed layout?

I wish they'd just leave it short hike/skate to montezuma, that at least cuts out a little traffic

So this is basically unavoidable. But
Maybe there is a way we can stall it for a few years. I don't have a problem with the expansion into the beavers/ gullies. I just wish they would do it with as little impact as possible.

I like it. Should make T-shirts with some sort of trade-marked saying to hammer home this . . .

An even unmanned rope tow would be fine, that will still keep people out, most don't know how to use that either.
