US OPEN R.I.P
Burton the originally based Vermont snowboard company has decided to leave Stratton for Vail. After close to 30 years(Originally starting at Snow Valley, I believe) in Southern VT.
If you haven't seen the movie Snow Blind check it out. Has a lot of local footage and history about the beginning of the Open. Very cool. It pisses me off that Jake's moving it out West, but I can't really bash Jake because I believe he donated a bunch of money to the state after Irene gave us the smack down. I know $tratton is kind of a joke with Joe's and gaper's but the history and roots of this East Coast event is what it's all about. Craig Kelly, Shaun Palmer, Terje, Duckboy Wallace, Kidwell, all the pioneers ripped up at this venue. Sad to see it go.

Jake's getting old. Maybe he's getting ready to retire and transition the company to the next generation, who don't have a serious devotion to Vermont like he does.
It isn't necessary to imagine the world ending in fire or ice. There are two other possibilities: one is paperwork, and the other is nostalgia.

Some of my peeps on FB are not happy to say the least. There is some serious Burton bashing going on.
People should learn endurance; they should learn to endure the discomforts of heat and cold, hunger and thirst; they should learn to be patient when receiving abuse and scorn; for it is the practice of endurance that quenches the fire of worldly passions which is burning up their bodies.

Already happened a few years ago.....Jake is still involved but not at the "daily level".
He's one of the nicest and most humble persons I have ever had the pleasure of knowing, pretty rare qualities in the industry.
Sad to see the Open leave VT but not surprised by the move. Maybe the Hayes brothers can make a come back
why make ten turns when you only need to make NONE!

If you want a fun, albeit not as filled with big names contest, check out Eastern Boarders "Last Call". It never disappoints for fun, and carnage, and partying.

Smart move, glad more people will get to experience this event.
A "true" US Open should not be in the same location every year IMO.Terje was right.

Haven't gone recently. I worked for Tabor and Bub. Good friends with Strobel and Nate. Eastern Boarder Leominster was my bread and butter while going to college in the early 2000s.
But it has always been a good time and can't see how its changed. Maybe I'll make an appearance this season to take pictures."Mr. President, I'm not saying we wouldn't get our hair mussed. But I do say no more than ten to twenty million killed, tops. Uh, depending on the breaks."
