    TR: Roundtop, 7/29/12

Yesterday MJ and I went out to get in some July turns before the end of the month.
On the hike up we met a maggot who just got his July turns by snowboarding the "Wu-Tang Patch"
Based on his report of inverted Volkswagon Beetle sized suncups we headed that way.
(I'm trying to recall his screen name, I think it has the word 'powder' in it. Hopefully he'll see this thread and post here. To quote or paraphrase Splat: "I have a great memory, it just doesn't last very long.")

MJ starts down the GZA line of the "Wu-Tang Patch":

    Vets follows...

    ...and keeps going...

    MJ:

Next, we bootpacked up to ski the RZA line of the "Wu-Tang Patch."

Vets gets started with some shadowboxing:

    ...and keeps going...

Vets rediscovers the mysteries of snowboxing:

Looking back at "graffiti" on the "Wu-Tang Patch":

After a brief late lunch we traversed from the bottom of the "Wu-Tang Patch" over to the top of the "Method Man Patch."

    MJ:

(The "Chef Raekwon" and "Ghostface Killah" patches are in the background)
    ...a closer look...

    ...and heading further down...

    MJ:

Bonus photo - Find the fat marmot:

It was fun finding a few smooth turns in between some massive suncups. While the conditions are not optimal, there is still enough snow to get in some late summer turns. I would recommend early August over late August though.

POWder, POWdid... I'd say your memory is doing alright! (I might not fair as well under the same circumstances.) Fortunately I had the advantage of meeting a summer stoke master who didn't really need an introduction. It was a pleasure to finally shake your hand, Vets! MJ, the same goes for you. It was a pleasure to meet you as well!

Like Vets stated, I was out for my July turns (largely inspired by the man himself!) and Round Top was my Shaolin Temple. The turns were enjoyable as always; however, it wasn't my best day. I was pressed for time on both ends of the trip and the snow left a little to be desired. I prefer to jump off the Beetle's rather than fall into them. Can't complain though... Sure beats work!

As I mentioned, I plan on getting out there again in a couple weeks and hopefully I’ll have more time to enjoy the day. Wu Tang was my plan but looking behind Kirkwood, there seemed to be a generous helping above Emigrant Lake (?). Looks a little more risky but I’ve never been out there to visit the patches. Vets?

    I can't remember...

Dookey and I skied there a few years ago. Melissa Coray Peak. Long approach with an interesting downclimb above Emmigrant Lake followed by a long hike out. There should be a TR posted here somewhere.
