info needed big time
jong me off to fuck, but i need some info,
ive just came back from a summer skiing trip on a glacier in the alps, skiing finished at 1 so in the afternoons i took to the mountains on my bike,
this was the 1st time ive ever done any down hilling, my bike is a giant xtc no rear shocker, got it a few years ago fully spec'd up by the shop who built it, manitau forks, hydrolic breaks, however is not a down hill bike, still loved it coming down the mountain though,
so what do i need to know? what should i be looking for in a good downhill bike?

SUSPENSION. Not Josh Bender 12in of suspension. But start trail bike with 6" and go from there.

well i'll be looking to mainly do trails with some downhilling thrown in but wont be shying away from hucking features once i get the hang of it,
actually when on the subject of hucking, what do i need to know about that, i ended up going over the handle bars and making a right mess of myself when i tried it.

If you're looking to go up and down on a single quiver, you'll want something with ~160mm of travel in the rear. YOu might consider getting two sets of wheels since this makes a huge difference in your ability to climb and confidence to huck/corner etc. What price range are you looking at.
Look for the "I suck at downhilling" thread for tips.Take everything you like seriously, except yourselves.

I think that is the first I have seen that rhetorical, imperative construction, "Jong Me Off To Fuck". It has quite a ring to it.

bit lost in exchange rate there, yes im from the uk so was meaning £600 uk pounds as opposed to $600 us dollars, i've not really got a budget, i'll spend what i have to to get whats suitable, i just dont want to look like one of them nobs on a top of the pops bike and inching down trails like a cock muncher, all the gear and no idea,
looking at it £600 is roughly about $1000 so im in about the right ball park

If he's already in yurp, a funky yurp brand might be able to provide good service/parts since they wouldn't be anywhere near as rare as here in NW Montana.
But yeah, going used might be your best bet since you'd break a thousand dollar new bike.
you don't want a downhill bike. You want a burly trail bike. Type that into teh googlez and maybe you'll find something.
